Independent Filmmakers Association of India (IFAI), a not-for-profit cumulative that entered into development in late 2025, made its official launching at the continuous Cannes Film Festival. Actor-producer Anshuman Jha and filmmaker Devashish Makhija represented the body on the celebration.
The group’s development was prompted in late 2025 after a public outreach from filmmaker Kanu Behl whose movie Agraafter its launching at Cannes 2023, had a hard time to get any theatrical screenings or backing from exhibitors. Agra had its streaming launching a couple of weeks earlier, on Prime Video. Part of the joint declaration from IFAI checked out, “What began as a little WhatsApp discussion in between a handful of filmmakers naturally turned into a bigger motion. We recognized that independent movies in India are making it through not due to the fact that of the system, however frequently in spite of it. What we required was a cumulative voice.”
