Director Jeethu Joseph has revealed that superstar Rajinikanth was initially considered to play the lead role in the Tamil remake of the film ‘Drishyam’. Originally directed by Jeethu Joseph with Mohanlal in the lead, ‘Drishyam’ was a huge success and was later remade in several Indian languages. Its sequel, ‘Drishyam 2’, was also well received, and the shoot for the third part is slated to begin in October.

In Tamil, the film was remade as ‘Papanasam’ starring Kamal Haasan. On the occasion of the film’s 10th anniversary, Jeethu Joseph shared in an interview that both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan had watched the original ‘Drishyam’. Rajinikanth watched the film at his home and remained silent for about 30 minutes after the screening. He later expressed that he loved the film but was concerned about whether audiences would accept scenes where the police are shown being attacked.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan watched the film and immediately agreed to be part of the remake. Consequently, the project with him began. A few days later, Rajinikanth called producer Suresh and mentioned that a friend of his encouraged him to accept the role, and he was ready to take it up. However, when informed that Kamal had already confirmed for the film, Rajinikanth graciously wished them “All the best”.
