Today Google has announced two updates to Gmail, both related to shopping. First, there’s a new Purchases view that will bring “all of your purchase and delivery updates together in one place”, the company says.
So you’ll have “a bird’s eye view of all your upcoming package deliveries” in one simple list. Packages that are set to arrive within 24 hours will still be shown at the top of your primary inbox, and the summary card will continue to also exist within your purchase emails. Purchases is an entirely new view that simply lets you see all purchase-related and shipping-related emails in one interface.
This will start rolling out today on mobile and web to users across the world with personal Gmail accounts. It’s unclear how long the rollout will take.
The Promotions tab is getting an update, allowing you to sort by “most relevant” promotional emails. This sort order will better surface “updates from senders and brands that matter most to you”, prioritizing the ones you engage with the most. There will also be helpful “nudges”, highlighting upcoming deals and timely offers you might not want to miss out on.
If you prefer the Promotions tab the way it is right now, then choosing to sort by “most recent” will get you there instead. The Promotions tab update will start rolling out “in the coming weeks” on mobile to users with personal Gmail accounts.
