China’s Xi Urges SCO Members To Seek Common Ground, Reject ‘Bullying’, ‘Cold War Mentality’

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday contacted member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to reinforce cooperation by looking for commonalities while reserving distinctions, as he alerted versus “Cold War mindset” and “bullying behaviour” in international affairs.

Call For Fairer Global Governance

The Chinese leader underlined the need for a fairer and more equitable system of global governance, stressing support for multilateral trade structures. By standing firmly against unilateralism and protectionist practices, Xi said the SCO could play a constructive role in stabilising the global economy.

He added that the organisation’s strength lies in its ability to bridge differences among diverse members and create platforms for dialogue. “We must seek common ground while shelving differences, promote unity rather than division, and advance cooperation instead of confrontation,” Xi stated.

Versus Bloc Politics

In a pointed criticism of Western-led alliances, Xi condemned what he referred to as Cold War-era thinking, bloc conflicts, and hegemonic practices. Without calling any nation, he stated the SCO “unquestionably stands versus outdoors disturbance” and warned against policies of containment and bullying.

He said: “We must promote a correct historical perspective on World War II, and oppose the Cold War mentality, bloc confrontation and bullying practices. We should safeguard the UN-centred international system, and support the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core. We should advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation, and make the global governance system more just and equitable.”

The SCO Gathering

The SCO, which is assembling its top over 2 days, presently has 10 member states– China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. An extra 16 countries are associated as observers or discussion partners, showing the group’s broadening impact.
