Lateral entry exempt to appointments, federal government notifies Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI: Ministry of workers on Thursday stated 63 visits made in main federal government departments because 2018 through lateral entry, were exempt to booking as they were produced particular projects, keeping in view the prospects’ specialised understanding and domain competence.In reply to a composed concern in Rajya Sabha, junior minister for workers Jitendra Singh stated “since each of these appointments were made against single-post cadre, reservation is not applicable in view of Supreme Court judgement in the case ‘PGIMER, Chandigarh vs. Faculty Association and Ors’.” “Accordingly category-wise data of the appointed officers has not been maintained,” he included.

The minister stated of the 63 officers designated in 3 cycles (2018, 2021 and 2023) up until now at the level of joint secretary, deputy secretary and director, 43 are presently in position throughout different ministries/departments.Following a political row over the policy for booking of SCs, STs and OBCs not being followed in lateral visits, UPSC had in Aug in 2015 cancelled an ad for recruitment to 45 posts through this path.
