Immigration Department holds oil painting exhibition commemorating 80th anniversary of victory in War of Resistance (with photos)

The Immigration Department (ImmD) is holding a six-week oil painting exhibition at the Immigration Headquarters starting from today (August 11) commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance. The opening ceremony was also held today.
In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and in the World Anti-Fascist War, the ImmD is holding the exhibition which showcases 28 oil paintings by Yang Yongzhi, a painter from Mainland China. The artworks, depicting the border gateways and control points of the nation and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, aims to enhance the understanding about the country’s achievements on border defense, strengthen the awareness of national security and promote patriotic values among different sectors of the Hong Kong community.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Director of Immigration, Mr Benson Kwok. Other officiating guests included the Deputy Director-General of the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Ms Meng Xiaoyuan; the representative of the liaison office of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Song Yiping; the Director-General of the Consular Department of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Wei Wenxiu; the Principal Assistant Secretary (Security), Miss Trista Lim; the District Officer (Sai Kung), Miss Kathy Ma; as well as Yang.
In his opening remarks, Mr Kwok said that this meaningful exhibition enables the public to remember history and honour martyrs. He remarked that 80 years ago, countless martyrs and compatriots sacrificed their lives to defend the nation, laying the foundation for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Mr Kwok hoped that the exhibition would convey to society the indomitable spirit demonstrated during the War of Resistance and the martyrs’ patriotism, and call on the public to cherish peace and development nowadays.
The exhibition will run from today to September 19 at the public lobby, G/F of the Administration Tower, Immigration Headquarters, 61 Po Yap Road, Tseung Kwan O. Opening hours are from 8.45am to 4.30pm from Monday to Friday, and from 8.45am to 11.30am on Saturday (excluding public holidays). Admission is free and no prior registration is required.
