HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday said that the highest number of candidates from Telangana should be selected for the civil services and that the Congress government had extended financial assistance to candidates who qualified for the UPSC Mains examination.

Bhatti said that human resources are the most important and strongest investments, and if they are polished like diamonds, they can be of immense benefit to society. Under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the people’s covernment decided to extend support to candidates preparing for the civil services, believing it would help them achieve their goals.

Bhatti was speaking at a programme held at Praja Bhavan, organised by Singareni, to provide financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each to 178 candidates who have qualified for the Mains examination.

He said that the 178 Mains-qualified candidates are being given `1 lakh each, and those shortlisted for the interview will also be provided `1 lakh along with accommodation in Delhi. The deputy Chief minister said that last year, 148 candidates were given financial assistance, out of whom 10 were selected for the civil services.

The state government, he said, was ready to extend all kinds of cooperation to those aspiring for the civil services. This programme is being conducted for the second consecutive year to encourage and instil confidence in the candidates.

He stressed that the role of the bureaucracy is crucial in upholding democracy and that the civil services provide the opportunity to change the living conditions of the people.

He noted that among the thousands of officers who have served in the state, only a few names — such as S.R. Sankaran, Parthasarathy, and Madhav Rao — have remained etched in people’s hearts. He said that if one serves with dedication, they can be remembered permanently in the hearts of the people.

He emphasised that government welfare and development schemes — both state and Central — can only achieve their intended goals if they reach the people in full. If there is a lack of sincerity among officials, no matter how great the government’s objectives are, they will not yield results.

Recalling S.R. Sankaran’s work as secretary of the social welfare department, he said the programmes undertaken at the time helped transform the living conditions of the people.

Speaking about the Singareni Collieries Company Limited, he pointed out that over 45,000 workers keep the company alive, indirectly providing employment to lakhs of people. He expressed confidence that in the journey towards success, the blessings of the Singareni workers would be with the candidates.
