Kristina Orliczky is a licensed physical therapist who is on a mission to change one frustrating aspect of childrens books: lack of movement. That is why she decided to write and publish Monas Mitten, a story that readers could literally move to and change the way parents read along with their kids. The book is now also on its way to display at the upcoming L.A. Times Festival of Books, where she hopes it will create more awareness of the importance of movement.

San Diego, CA – WEBWIRE

A charming childrens book to get the whole family reading and moving!

Visitors to the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2024 will have plenty of new publications in childrens literature, each one showcasing the next generation of artistic talent as well as innovative approaches to writing for and educating young minds. For Kristina Orliczky, that innovation comes in the form of getting kids to practice healthy movement even as theyre reading along.

Orliczky is a licensed physical therapist and a certified practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method, a form of therapy known for its gentle application of physics, psychology, and motor development. In her experience, its not merely screens and TVs that create harmful sedentary habits in children.

The same can be said for books and how even something like an enriching reading habit can still make children forget about getting up to exercise and move their bodies properly.

Hence, she wrote and published Monas Mitten: A Story to MOVE to. Described as a story you can move to, Orliczky decided to take a number of movement exercises she has recommended in her practice and turn them into an exciting story for families to enjoy together (while also staying fit).

Monas Mitten tells the story of a passionate skier who loves life and motion followed by a little mouse in search of a new home. Together, readers can follow along with their story by performing several tasks and learn just how much they need movement in many areas of their lives.

Curious readers can check out Monas Mitten: A Story to MOVE to themselves when it goes on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnets exhibit at the L.A. Times Festival of Books at booth #225. The literary festival will be held on April 20-21, 2024, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
