Hong Kong Police’s National Security Department arrested two women for suspected contravention of National Security Law

     The National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force arrested two women, aged 21 and 24 yesterday afternoon (February 24) in Mong Kok and Tsuen Wan respectively, for suspected of doing an act or acts with seditious intention, contravening Section 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 200). Both arrested persons are being detained for further enquiries.



     Besides, Police conducted searches at the two arrested persons’ residences and a shop located in Mong Kok with a court warrant. Posters inciting hatred and inciting others to violate anti-epidemic regulations, and some electronic communication devices which were used to publish seditious messages were seized.



     As shown by the Police’s investigation, the two arrested persons were both in charge of the aforementioned shop. They had published seditious posts on the shop’s social media platform for multiple times since October 2020, including posts which incited hatred and incited others to violate anti-epidemic regulations.



     General public is reminded that, “doing an act or acts with seditious intention” is a serious crime. Offenders shall be liable upon conviction to imprisonment for two years. Members of the public are urged to discern fact from fallacy and not to be misled by unfounded and biased information.
