Alabama Real Estate Investor Agrees to Plead Guilty to Conspiracies to Rig Bids and Commit Mail Fraud for the Purchaseof Real Estate at Public Foreclosure Auctions

WASHINGTON – An Alabama real estate investor has agreed to plead guilty and to serve one year in prison for his role in conspiracies to rig bids and commit mail fraud at public real estate foreclosure auctions in southern Alabama, the Department of Justice announced today.¡ To date, as a result of the ongoing investigation, four individuals and one company have pleaded guilty.

Virginia Man Sentenced for Filing a False Refund Claim Basedon Forms-1099 and for Failing to File Tax Returns

Richard Jaensch, 54, of Annandale, Va., was sentenced today to 36 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee, the Justice Department and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced. Jaensch had been found guilty on Dec. 7, 2011, by a federal jury sitting in Alexandria, Va., of corruptly endeavoring to impede the IRS, filing a false claim for a refund and four counts of failing to file tax returns for 2004 through 2007.

Hong Kong Customs today (April 28) swooped on an illicit cigarette smuggling syndicate in Western Wholesale Food Market.On board a cross-boundary lorry and two local lorries, a total of 387 boxes containing 3 million sticks of duty-not-paid cigarettes were found.The total value is about $7.5 million with a duty potential of $5.1 million.In the operation, three Hong Kong men (aged 22 to 42) were arrested, and three lorries were seized.
