MEDFORD, Ore.April 2, 2023PRLog — Spring is in the air – but you wouldn’t know it by looking outside.  For many parts of the country, we are still in many feet of snow.  There are two parts of the country who are suffering with large amounts of snow, the Sierras and the Rockies.  The Sierra’s snowpack grows even deeper.  Combined with the series of winter storms have given the state an above-average snowpack.  Like many parts of the country, it will be late spring before the snowplows can fight through 20-foot snow drifts. Springtime in the Rockies lasts four months. That’s because altitude plays such an important role when plants and wildflowers come out.

Well Roy Rogers and Gene Autry fans, here are two Western movies with Springtime in the title showcasing the colors, songs and stars. Can’t get out to see the colors?  Movies entertain while waiting for the snow to melt:

SPRINGTIME IN THE SIERRAS (1947, IN COLOR & UNCUT) Roy Rogers, Jane Frazee, Stephanie Bachelor, Roy Barcroft, Andy Devine, Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers. After years of waiting, another uncut, color Rogers film finally surfaces. A gang, headed by a ruthless but beautiful female killer, is slaughtering game out of season. Roy, of course, finds out and sets out to land her and her gang in the slammer. Watch for the big fight scene between Rogers and Barcroft in a big freezer. Bachelor is terrific as a beautiful, sweet-smiling, ruthless killer in this fine Republic western. Unusual to see Devine actually shooting bad guys. An absolute must. Color, 16mm.  https://www.sinistercinema.com/product.asp?specific=35140

SPRINGTIME IN THE ROCKIES (1937, Republic) Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, Polly Rowles, George Chesebro. From a gorgeous 16mm original print! Gene is the foreman of a ranch with a new owner—a woman! She decides to bring sheep onto the ranch, much to the chagrin of the local cattle ranchers. Gene tries to make peace before things get out of hand. Gene’s early Republic’s are all pretty good films and this one is no exception.

Canada – Western PEI will benefit from investments to help bring people back to public spaces safely

Canadian cities and towns flourish when they have community public spaces to promote social interaction and physical activity, and provide access to recreational programs and facilities. These amenities are integral to the overall well-being of individuals, families and communities. Our economic recovery is closely linked to the vitality of our local communities and their shared spaces.

Government of Canada fueling community revitalization and creating the conditions for local economies to thrive as they rebound from the effects of COVID-19

Today, Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, announced total investments of $706,410 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) for eight projects in western Prince Edward Island. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.

For the full list of projects, please see backgrounder.

The CCRF was launched in June 2021. The Fund provides $500 million over two years to Canada’s regional development agencies (RDAs) to invest in shared and inclusive public spaces. As public health restrictions ease, the Government of Canada remains committed to investing in shared spaces to make them safer, greener and more accessible. This in turn will stimulate local economies, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for Canadians.

“Strong, vibrant communities in Prince Edward Island are a critical part of a robust and inclusive economic recovery. Investing in shared public spaces helps revitalize local economies, boosts tourism, creates jobs, and gives residents a place to come together safely.”

–    The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA

CCRF funding will support two major streams of activity:

o    adapt community spaces and assets so that they may be used safely in accordance with local public health guidelines,

o    build or improve community spaces to encourage Canadians to re-engage in, and explore their communities and regions.

Eligible recipients will include not-for-profit organizations; rural, municipal or regional governments; Indigenous groups and communities; and public sector bodies that provide municipal-type infrastructure.

Priority may be given to projects that encourage the participation of underrepresented groups and take into consideration the unique challenges of rural and remote communities.

For more information on the application process, eligibility criteria and eligible expenses, or to apply for the CCRF, reach out to your regional development agency.

Canada’s regional development agencies are continuing to deliver targeted support for economic recovery in the region. Application intake is open through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency for the Canada Community Revitalization Fund, Jobs and Growth Fund, Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative and Tourism Relief Fund.

Shared public spaces such as Royal Canadian Legion branches and agricultural exposition grounds are at the heart of communities across Canada. They draw in residents and visitors alike, supporting local businesses and jobs. In western Prince Edward Island, as in so many places across Canada, these spaces have seen a significant reduction in use as Canadians took precautions to stay safe from COVID-19.

The Government of Canada recognizes that Canadian cities and towns flourish when they have community public spaces to promote social interaction and physical activity, and provide access to recreational programs and facilities. These amenities are integral to the overall well-being of individuals, families and communities. Our economic recovery is closely linked to the vitality of our local communities and their shared spaces.

Today Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, announced total investments of $374,960 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) for two projects in the Prince County area. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, and Minister responsible for ACOA.

“Through investments like these, our government is supporting economic development in communities of every size, in every region. We have helped put small- and medium-sized businesses on the road to recovery. Now it’s time to invest in the shared public spaces that will safely bring people together and help communities grow and thrive well into the future.”
