Fulton Books author Beth Jauregui, who has been an art instructor and educator on the central coast of California for over forty years, has completed her most recent book, “Paintings from the Edge of the Santa Lucia Mountains: Sharing Environmental Studies Through Art”: an astounding collection of the author’s paintings that explore the beautiful landscapes of the Carmel River Valley of California.
Author Beth Jauregui began her teaching career at the University of California Santa Cruz Art Department during graduate studies and went on to administer and teach the Children’s Art Department for the Arts and Crafts Division at Fort Ord while teaching other Monterey County art programs. Her work over the years also included working with the Carmel-by-the-Sea Recreation Department, Lyceum of Monterey County’s Triad Program, and the Old Monterey Historic Society’s Los Niño’s Program in partnership with California State Parks.
As a credentialed teacher, Jauregui became a mentor art teacher for San Juan Bautista Elementary, volunteered her time for Monterey Peninsula’s La Mesa Elementary Art Docent Program, and taught at Carmel River School for thirty years, sharing environmental studies, art and children’s literature with her students. Beth Jauregui’s paintings depict various locations of Carmel, Carmel Valley and the Monterey Bay.

The Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Embassy of the Republic of El Salvador in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA) has organized an art exhibition of Paintings featuring works of the renowned artist Mr. Rodolfo Vega Oviedo from El Salvador.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Ms. Meenakashi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture in the presence of renowned artist Mr.Rodolfo Vega Oviedo, today at IGNCA Gallery, in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi stated that cultural exchanges and appreciation of each other through art and craft, helps in familiarization with the way of life and promotes good relations among countries. Appreciating Mr. Rodolfo Vega Oviedo she said that he is here on a very momentous occasion as India is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Renowned artist Mr.Rodolfo Vega Oviedo, is a painter, an interior architect and cultural administrator is awarded by the French Government for his cultural work and for consolidating links between France and Latin America.
Rodolfo’s paintings act almost like an axis that centres his distinctive stories. Carefully collected materials like wire, sand, and leaf, amongst others, synthesize with his memories and result in a well-rehearsed composition. Acrylic and neon painted canvases delightfully demonstrate an accumulation of universal or mythological motifs simplified on the verge of abstraction. Correspondingly, the juxtaposition of geometrical patterns, colours, and textures codify his language yet make them intriguing. Taking a close look at the composition reveals layers of motifs like architecture, temple, rays, the sun, the moon, and undoubtedly much more. Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers will bid farewell to autumn with an online-only Fall Antiques & Fine Art auction on Thursday, December 10th, starting at 6 pm Eastern time. Highlights include a crayon on paper illustration drawing by Lois Mailou Jones (Mass./Haiti, 1905-1998), a Vermont landscape painting by Charles Gordon Harris (R.I., 1893-1963), a large selection of jade jewelry, 14kt gold watches, rings, bracelets, pearl necklaces and accessories. The pedestal and bench each carry reasonable estimates of $1,500-$2,500. The 19th century European Gothic Revival figural hall bench features an ornately carved crest over acanthus leaf band over military official portrait cartouches with gargoyles, lions, griffins and mythical beasts throughout, supported by scrolled feet. The hardwood bench is 52 inches tall by 65 inches wide.
The 19th century walnut and cherrywood New York Victorian Aesthetic carved crane pedestal has an oval-shaped top over an ornate column with exquisitely carved cranes with flared wings supported by four finely carved scroll feet. The underside has a “1500” stamp. The pedestal has some minor condition issues but is in overall good shape. It’s 36 ½ inches tall by 22 inches wide.
With a pre-sale estimate of $2,000-$3,000 the crayon on paper illustration signed by Lois Mailou Jones is a candidate for top lot of the auction. The 8 ¾ inch by 6 ½ inch work (sight, less frame) depicts two women doing chores, gossiping over a fence. Jones studied painting at the Academie Julian and was the only female African American painter of the 30s/40s to achieve fame abroad.
Also carrying a $2,000-$3,000 estimate is a fine antique Kerman pictorial floral wool Persian carpet, hand-woven in the first quarter of the 20th century. The rug has an ornately detailed floral pattern with branches and birds over an ivory open field surrounded by intricate floral borders. Measuring 9 feet 9 inches by 18 feet, the carpet came from the collection of a Newport, R.I. lady.
An extremely fine horse hair bridle group of the kind made in prison in the Southwestern U.S. in the 20th century is expected to hit $2,000-$3,000. The bridle group includes a horse hair bridle with red, yellow, blue and black dyed hair with a tendril carved metal bit, two black and red geometric patterned decorative horse hair tassels and a dyed sisal whip, all in excellent condition.
A pair of New England landscape paintings by Daniel Santry (Mass./N.H./France, 1858-1915), including a plein air painting of a tree-filled field in Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire, and an impressionist view of a small house surrounded by blossoming trees, will be offered together as one lot (est. $1,000-$2,000). Both oil on board paintings are artist signed.
Leading the fine jewelry category will be an 18kt gold carved citrine pendant, made in the 20th century by David Webb (N.Y.), boasting a large carved citrine with an Asiatic inspired design inset with six diamonds encased in 18kt gold with a leaf textured frame (est. $1,500-$2,000). The pendant, weighing 65.1 grams, is 2 ½ inches by 1 ½ inches and is marked “Webb 18K” on verso.
A Masenza Roma 18kt gold coral brooch made by Franco Cannilla (Italian, 1911-1985), should change hands for $1,000-$1,500. The coral figural tree brooch with selected light green emerald leaves and a figural person toward the base, mounted on an 18kt gold frame, weighs 39.7 grams. The 3 inch by 2 ¼ inch brooch is marked “Masenza Roma” and is signed “Cannilla” on verso.
A lovely oil on board impressionist depiction of a covered bridge surrounded by vibrant fall foliage by Rhode Island artist Charles Gordon Harris (1891-1961) is estimated to reach $500-$800. The work, signed in the lower right-hand corner, is 16 inches by 20 inches (sight, less frame) and is titled and signed on verso, “Covered Bridge, Charlotte, VT C. Gordon Harris.”

The 242-lot online sale includes American and European art from the 19th and early 20th centuries, modern and contemporary art, fine prints, sculpture and drawings. The expected top lot of the sale is a rare drawing by Dutch artist Rudolf Bonnet, of two women carrying water jugs on their heads. Waterdraagsters was painted while the artist was living and working in Bali. Bonnet devoted his life to artistic and philanthropic efforts to promote Balinese art. His genre scenes of Balinese people capture the spirit of life in Bali and are widely collected by enthusiasts of Indonesian art.
Another rare gem is an Eliseo Meifren painting of his garden in Majorca. The painting was originally shipped to the United States for the Pan-Pacific International Exhibition in 1915, where the artist was awarded a Medal of Honor. It was sold at The Anderson Galleries in New York City before the Spanish Commissioner returned home in 1919 and has since descended into a private collection. This fresh-to-the-market painting beautifully depicts the artist’s colorful garden in a Spanish Impressionist style.
American paintings will be led by a large Antonio Jacobsen marine rendering of the U.S.M. Pennsylvania. Measuring 32 inches by 60 inches, the painting is an impressive composition. Other highlights in American art include paintings by New Englander Eric Sloane; Hudson River School paintings by Arthur Parton and Samuel L. Gerry; 19th century genre paintings by Hamilton Hamilton and Francis Coates Jones; Western art by Frank McCarthy and Carl Pugliese; and American Impressionism by Richard Hayley Lever, Emile Gruppe, Clarence Kerr Chatterton, Charles Warren Eaton and others.
An original work on paper by Robert Rauschenberg (Untitled, 1983), leads the contemporary offerings with a $10,000-$15,000 estimate. This solvent transfer with acrylic and graphite work presents a unique opportunity for new and seasoned collectors to own an original Rauschenberg at an approachable price. A modern abstract on paper by George L.K. Morris is another such opportunity for a collector to buy an original, quality work by a highly sought-after artist, estimated at just $7,000-$9,000.

An exceedingly rare New Orleans .900 silver fireman’s speaking trumpet from 1891, plus original paintings by Clementine Hunter, Sarah Ashley Longshore, Hovsep Pushman and Jose Puyet are just a few of the expected top lots in Crescent City Auction Gallery’s live and online Important Fall Estates Auction slated for the weekend of Nov. 14-15.
The gallery, at 1330 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, will be open for exhibitions beginning Thursday, November 5th, from 10-5 Central time, by appointment only (excluding Sunday). The auction is an eclectic one, with merchandise ranging from carved wooden santos (small statues of saints or angels) to fine estate jewelry (to include diamonds, rubies, sapphires, Tahitian pearls, tanzanite and tourmaline). Also offered will be French and American period furniture, original works of art, French clocks, silver, bronzes and wonderful decorative accessories.
The 19th century silver fireman’s speaking trumpet is engraved with, “Presented by Star Hook and Ladder Company to Simon Oesterly as a Token of Respect and Acknowledgement of His Services, New Orleans, 1891”. It features a mouthpiece of coin silver, with engraved and repousse oak leaf and acorn decoration and weighs a total 26.4 troy oz. (est. $12,000-$18,000).
The legendary Louisiana folk artist Clementine Hunter (1887-1988) will be represented multiple times in the auction, beginning with a circa 1966 oil on board painting titled The Honky Tonk on Cane River, Saturday Night, which has been authenticated by a Hunter expert. The painting, measuring 15 ½ inches by23 ¾ inches, has a reasonable pre-sale estimate of $2,500-$4,500.
Also from Hunter is an oil on Masonite still-life painting titled Zinnias from 1969, measuring 23 ¾ inches by 9 ¾ inches. (est. $2,000-$4,000); and one lot consisting of two clay ginger beer bottles paint-decorated by the artist, one with zinnias and the other with two figures: a flower and a bird. Both were executed around 1980 and together have a pre-sale estimate of $800-$1,200.
The mixed media painting by New Orleans artist Sarah Ashley Longshore (b. 1975), popularly known as Ashley Longshore, is titled Audrey Hepburn with Butterflies and is expected to bring $6,000-$9,000. Longshore is a painter, gallery owner and entrepreneur. Her art focuses on pop culture, Hollywood glamour, and American consumerism. She’s been compared to Andy Warhol.
The oil on board painting signed by Hovsep Pushman (Armenian-American, 1877-1966), titled Armenian Girl (early 20th century) is 11 inches by 8 ½ inches and should garner $2,500-$4,500. Pushman was known for his contemplative still lifes and sensitive portraits of women, often in exotic dress. He was represented by the Grand Central Art Galleries from 1922 until his death.
The oil on canvas painting by Spanish modern impressionist Jose Puyet (1922-2004), titled In the Salon, 31 inches by 38 ¾ inches, has an estimate of $1,000-$2,500. Puyet lived and worked his entire life in Spain, but his popularity spread to the United States. His paintings can be found in museums and collections. The singer Placido Domingo owns a sizable collection of his work.
Fine French period furniture will be plentiful and includes these marvelous examples:
– Large French provincial carved oak monastery table, 19th century (est. $1,200-$1,800)
– Louis XVI-style ormolu mounted mahogany marble-top sideboard (est. $1,200-$1,800)
– French Empire-style carved walnut marble-top commode, 19th century (est. $700-$1,200)

Original artworks by local and regional artists will feature a watercolor and graphite painting signed by Walter Anderson (Miss., 1903-1965), titled Eggplants (est. $8,000-$12,000); a 1915 painting by Alexander J. Drysdale (New Orleans, 1870-1934), titled Bayou Scene with Moss Draped Oak and Water Lilies (est. $1,500-$2,500); a 1961 oil on Masonite by Mildred “Millie” Wohl (New Orleans, 1906-1977), Painting No. 13 (est. $1,000-$1,500); and a silver gelatin photograph by George Valentine Dureau (New Orleans, 1930-2014), titled Jeffrey Cook (est. $600-$900).
Paintings by artists outside the U.S. will be headlined by an oil on canvas by the Israeli artist Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012), titled Tea Time, signed lower right (est. $2,000-$4,000); and an oil on panel by Niek van der Plas (Dutch, b. 1954), titled Horses on the Beach (est. $1,000-$1,500).
A wood sculpture by Pedro Friedeberg (Mexican, b. 1936), titled Hands and Head, diminutive at just 8 inches in height, should go for $800-$1,200; while a patinated bronze sculpture by Eutrope Bouret (French, 1833-1906) titled Jeanne d’Arc on Horseback, is expected to make $700-$1,200.
Decorative accessories will be led by a pair of Louis XVI-style gilt bronze mounted gray marble urns, 19th century, each one a foot tall (est. $2,000-$3,000); a large pair of cast iron campana form garden urns, 20th or 21st century, 46 inches tall (est. $1,500-$2,500); and a four-piece sterling tea and coffee set by Gorham in the Buttercup pattern, 55.1 troy oz. (est. $1,200-$2,000).
Rounding out just a couple more of the weekend’s highlight lots, a 20th century American Empire carved mahogany serpentine curved glass curio cabinet, 64 inches tall by 50 ¾ inches wide, has a pre-sale estimate of $600-$900; while a 19th century Old Paris porcelain figural mantel clock with a blown glass rectangular dome on an ebonized mahogany base should rise to $400-$800.
