Hong Kong – Quota allocation on resumption of quarantine-free travel with Mainland

Quota allocation on resumption of quarantine-free travel with Mainland

**********************************************************************

In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said today (December 18) that the Government is fully dedicated in the final preparation stage of the orderly resumption of quarantine-free travel with the Mainland, including the quota, and will make an announcement at a suitable juncture.

The Government understands that not being able to have quarantine-free travel to the Mainland for a prolonged period of time has affected the daily lives and different kinds of interactions between people in these two places, including official and business engagements and non-official and non-business situations. The Government will consider the handling of quota in a comprehensive and holistic manner.

Hong Kong – Allocation of wrong polling station to some electors of eastern part of Sha Tin District of New Territories South East geographical constituency

Allocation of wrong polling station to some electors of eastern part of Sha Tin District of New Territories South East geographical constituency

******************************************************************************************

A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (December 10) that, upon checking of records on polling station allocation, it was discovered that about 14 200 electors of eastern part of Sha Tin District of New Territories South East geographical constituency (GC) were mistakenly allocated to a wrong polling station in the same GC.

The incident involves two nearby polling stations in eastern part of Sha Tin District of the New Territories South East GC. Initial investigation revealed that when allocating electors to polling station, REO staff mistakenly swapped electors of two polling stations, namely CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School (Code: R2701) and PLK Riverain Primary School (Code: R2702), resulting in the wrong allocation of polling station to about 14 200 electors.

Since poll cards have been mailed to all electors, the REO is arranging to re-mail a revised poll card with location map of the polling station to affected electors as soon as possible.

The REO will deploy additional staff at the polling stations concerned to assist electors on the polling day. In addition, notices will be put up at prominent locations of the polling stations to make sure electors cast their votes at the correct polling station.

The REO offered apologies to electors concerned for the inconvenience caused. The REO will be more cautious and conduct repeated inspections to avoid recurrence of similar incident.

The spokesman added that electors may only cast their votes at the designated polling station. Electors can log in to the Online Voter Information Enquiry System (www.voterinfo.gov.hk) to check their designated polling station. For enquiries, please call 2891 1001.
