SWD urges public to be alert to fraudulent messaging application account

The Social Welfare Department (SWD) today (August 7) alerted members of the public to not respond to any messages associated with a fraudulent messaging application account, which purports to be associated with the SWD. Members of the public are also advised not to provide any personal information to the account.
The fraudulent account falsely claimed to be representing the SWD’s service centres, luring members of the public to respond to its messages or click on unknown hyperlinks embedded for stealing their personal information. The SWD emphasises that the account has no connection with the department and has referred the case to the Police for follow-up.
