New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday declined to captivate a plea looking for the registration of an FIR and a probe by an SIT or CBI into the supposed discovery of substantial stash of money following a fire at the house of previous Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma.

Describing the petition a “wild witch hunt”Justice Amit Bansal said that the petitioner, legal representative Ghanshyam Upadhyay, has alternative treatments in law.

“I’m not entertaining this. This is a wild witch hunt. You have nothing better to do?” the judge observed.

Throughout the hearing, the court questioned the locus of the petitioner and asked why he did not approach the high court with his plea for an FIR.

The petitioner sent that the occurrence was “extraordinary” in nature and the lower court “can’t do justice to the matter”

“This is regarding justice Yashwant Varma. Criminal law can be set into motion by anyone. There is no embargo,” he even more described.

After the court showed that it would dismiss the plea, the petitioner withdrew his plea to think about readily available solutions in law.

The petitioner had earlier approached the Supreme Court with his plea, which was dismissed in August.

The supposed discovery of a big stash of money occurred after a fire broke out at the Lutyens’ Delhi home of Varma, then a Delhi High Court judge, around 11:35 pm on the night of Holi on March 14, 2025, triggering the fire department workers to hurry to the area and splash the flames.

The money discovery activated a significant debate and he was then moved to Allahabad High Court, his moms and dad high court.

Varma, who was dealing with impeachment procedures, resigned this year on April 9. The judge sent his resignation in a letter to President Droupadi Murmu.
