Three tonnes of Amrapali mangoes from Odisha’s Dhenkanal have been exported to London in the first international consignment of the ongoing mango season.

As per a report by Times of India, the export marks a significant milestone for mango growers in the region and reflects increasing global demand for Odisha’s horticultural produce.

According to a media statement, the export was carried out under the guidance and institutional support of the Directorate of Horticulture under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha. The shipment was handled by Madanamohan Farmer Producer Cooperative Society Ltd, DKL Innovative Farmer Producer Company Ltd (FPCL), and Kankadahad FPCL.

Export Process Backed by Institutional Support

The export operation was facilitated by Palladium, the implementing partner for the PSFPO (Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations) project of DA&FE. The initiative also received support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, APEDA and other partner institutions.

Officials stated that the initiative resulted in nearly 72 per cent improvement in farmer price realisation. The achievement was attributed to a series of export-oriented interventions aimed at improving farmer preparedness and strengthening institutional readiness ahead of the mango season.

Focus on Capacity Building and Long-Term Exports

Quoting APEDA Regional Head Sitakanta Mandal, the statement said capacity building remains essential for sustainable export growth. He stated that such programmes help Farmer-Producer Companies understand market requirements and interact more effectively with buyers.

Mandal further said that continuous learning and preparedness are necessary to build credibility and ensure long-term participation in export markets. The successful export from Dhenkanal was described as an example of coordinated efforts between government departments, institutions and stakeholders delivering tangible benefits for farmers.
