Vijayawada: Education minister Nara Lokesh on Friday announced that schools across Andhra Pradesh will remain closed for Dasara from September 22 to October 2, extending the break to 12 days instead of the earlier nine.
The decision followed requests from teachers and MLCs, including Alapati Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Kancharla Srikanth, Dr. Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao, B. Ramagopal Reddy and Perabathula Rajasekhar, who wrote to the minister seeking an early start to the holidays.
Lokesh said the change was made after consultations with education department officials, keeping in view the festive spirit and appeals from teaching staff.
