Bosnia’s electoral authorities on Wednesday (August 5, 2025) removed separatist Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik from his position as president of the Serb entity in Bosnia, following an appeals court decision that sentences him to one year in prison and 6 years restriction on all political activities.

The Central Electoral Commission stated that Mr. Dodik deserves to appeal, with an early governmental election to be held 90 days after the choice. The last Bosnian Serb governmental vote was kept in 2022.

Mr. Dodik’s required as Bosnian Serb president was withdrawed due to the fact that he was lawfully sentenced to one year in jail and handed a six-year restriction on political activity.

An appeals court in Bosnia-Herzegovina verified Friday an earlier court judgment that sentenced the pro-Russia Bosnian Serb leader to one year in jail and prohibited him from politics for 6 years over his separatist actions.

Mr. Dodik turned down the court judgment and included that he will continue to function as the Bosnian Serb President as long as he has the assistance of the Bosnian Serb parliament. He likewise got assistance from populist Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in addition to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
