CFS urges public not to consume batch of Japanese bottled alcoholic drink with potential leakage and bottle breakage risk

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (July 7) urged members of the public not to consume a batch of bottled alcoholic drink imported from Japan due to potential risk of leakage and bottle breakage. The trade should also stop using or selling the affected batch of the product immediately if they possess it.

Best before date: May 31, 2024
Importer: City Super Limited
A spokesman for the CFS said, “The CFS received a notification from the importer that the above-mentioned product may have a risk of leakage due to an increase in pressure inside the bottle. The importer confirmed that it had imported into Hong Kong the affected batch of the product concerned, and has therefore voluntarily initiated a recall as a precautionary measure.”
Risk assessment of the CFS showed that the increase of pressure inside the bottle may pose a risk of bottle breakage.
The spokesman said that the importer concerned has voluntarily stopped sales, removed the affected product from shelves and initiated a recall. Members of the public may call the hotline of the importer at 2736 3866 during office hours for enquiries about the recall.
The spokesman urged members of the public not to consume the affected batch of the product if they have purchased any. The trade should also stop using or selling the affected batch of the product immediately if they possess it.
The CFS will alert the trade to the incident, continue to follow up and take appropriate action. Investigation is ongoing.
