When Dr. Micheal Everest learned about the Telephone Angels Program; he was intrigued by what this program was doing to lift the spirits of those who were alone, especially during the times of lockdown over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Michael Everest is well-known for his medical expertise and charitable contributions. His father, Edwin Everest, was the founder of The Everest Foundation, which is a non-profit company dedicated to providing more opportunities for medical research and education. They have given the funding needed for many residency programs and medical research, bringing possibilities to people all over the country.

When Dr. Micheal Everest learned about the Telephone Angels Program; he was intrigued by what this program was doing to lift the spirits of those who were alone, especially during the times of lockdown over the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this program would not be able to successfully operate if it did not receive funding. So, to keep things running, The Everest Foundation donated a $55,000 grant.

What Is The Telephone Angels Program?

The Telephone Angels Program was first started in April 2020, when many people were feeling an all-time low from being isolated. Volunteers will make phone calls to those who sign up for the program once or twice a week. These calls are simply cheer-up calls, where the participant and the volunteer can chat about anything.

Volunteers aren’t there to give medical or psychological advice. They are just calling to brighten up the participant’s day. Many people relate to feeling alone or isolated; these cheer-up calls help them feel less alone. While this program was initially organized to help boost the participants’ mental health, many volunteers have started to feel happier and more socially alert from the experience.

Telephone Angels Program is based In LA and is organized by the founders of the Angel Food Program. This is a non-profit program that provides medically tailored food to people who are living with chronic illnesses. They provide meals to over 2,300 people every day.

How The Everest Foundation Is Helping

Dr. Michael Everest and Everest Foundation are very committed to using their resources to help projects and organizations that benefit the health industry, whether it’s physical or mental. The positive effects these cheer-up calls are having on many people whose mental health has been at an all-time low is needed more than ever right now.

In order to keep this program running successfully, it will need proper resources. That is why The Everest Foundation decided to donate the $55,000 grant. Now the Telephone Angels Program has funding for training and other resources they need to keep the operation running. The money has even helped them find more qualified volunteers.

The Everest Foundation and Telephone Angels program are excited to work together and deliver more cheer-up calls to those who need a friend to chat to. It’s amazing what a 10-minute phone call can do to boost a person’s mood. When a program can help its volunteers just as much as the people it’s aiming to help, then The Everest Foundations knows they are worth funding.

Dr. Michael Everest hopes this money can help the Angels with the research needed to keep everyone using the program happy with their services.
