Omega is a big name in the luxury watchmaking industry. As a matter of fact, merely calling it ‘big’ does not do justice to the watchmaker’s prowess and reputation in the art of making fine watches and in the global watch markets, respectively. When it comes to quality, it is one of the few names that can stand against any odds. This is not just a statement, it is a fact. As history tells us, omega has always been on top of its game. Be it the conquest of the Geneva Observatory Trials, the title of the first official timekeeper of all sporting events in the Olympics, or most importantly, being the first-ever watch to be on the moon, Omega has done and seen it all.

The Most Popular Omega Watches Of All Time

Omega timepieces have a special place in the industry. They have practically seen all the ups and downs an enterprise can think of. Nonetheless, today they stand tall with some of the best watch collections in the history of Haute Horlogerie such as the Omega Speedmaster and Seamaster.

Omega Speedmaster

First introduced in 1957, the Omega Speedmaster’s history goes way back. It was initially introduced as a sports chronograph that was often seen as the brand’s frontrunner in the segment. One of the key elements that made it special was the tachymeter on the bezel that eventually gave it the name ‘Speedmaster’.
The first reference of the Omega Speedmaster watch, the ref. CK2915 was an iconic one. The watch was one of the earliest models that displayed the popular three register layout of a chronograph timepiece. It had the perfect proportions, a prominent display, and a dominant structure. With straight lugs, broad arrow style hands, and the tachymeter bezel, the watch was just as perfect as it could have been for that time. It utilized the calibre 321, an important movement in the brand’s history.

Omega Seamaster

The Seamaster watch was launched in 1948. The year was also important as it marked the 100th anniversary of the Swiss watchmaker. The watch was an immediate hit. The timepiece was actually an upgrade on the waterproof watches made for the British Royal Army. The Omega Seamaster utilized an O-ring gasket, a remarkable piece of innovation that made it really special.
Many people do not realize but the De Ville collection was a part of the Seamaster series in the initial years. It was only after its overwhelming popularity that it was made into a new collection altogether.
These Omega watches hold great significance in the brand’s as well as the industry’s history. And by what it seems, these watches will continue to do so.
