Since 2015 an exciting project has been underway in Budhpura, India – The Stop Child Labour Campaign, a campaign created by industry leaders in order to eradicate child labour in Budhpura – a location where much stone that we use in the UK is quarried.
Budhpura, India is one of the main sourcing regions for Indian Sandstone and this is why so many stone companies saw it important to ensure that child labour free zones were created in this region. Since the project started a lot of progress has been made including but not limited to the following:
• Hundreds of children have been taken out of child labour and enrolled into formal education
• Since the project started the number of teachers in local Budhpura schools has almost doubled
