PEGA TEACH FOR CHANGE ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF ITS NATIONWIDE LITERACY PROGRAM IN EIGHT CITIES

National, January 22nd, 2019: Pega Teach for Change, is a nonprofit organization which works in collaboration with governments to improve literacy and life skills among primary school children from low income communities (Grade 3 to Grade 5) studying in Government schools. Co- Founded by Lakshmi Manchu & Chaitanya MRSK in 2014, the movement aims to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 4 is Quality Education).
The Literacy Program will now be active across eight cities, namely Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Vijaywada and Vizag. Thousands of committed citizens across cities contribute as volunteers to teach children in their neighborhood government school. With this, the literacy program will positively impact 1,50,000 children across 1000 schools.
The idea of the NGO stemmed from children’s inaccessibility to literacy skills in Government run primary schools due to insufficiently trained teachers and minimal exposure to age appropriate books
Co -Founder & CEO Chaitanya MRSK says, “I am thrilled to see what started as an individual effort in 2014 is now a nationwide movement with 3000 volunteers. We welcome individuals who have the passion for teaching and are keen on making a difference in the Indian education sector to join us. We are striving for quantifiable breakthroughs in the academic system.”
Co – Founder & Chairperson Lakshmi Manchu says, “The Teach for Change literacy movement caters to a very inherent issue in our country – accessibility to proper education at a primary level. Here’s hoping our efforts spread far and wide.”
With the significant results of the movement, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu governments in India have signed an MOU with Teach for Change. Notable personalities like Smt Jaya Bachchan, Smt. Renuka Chowdhury, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Actor Sushmita Sen and Mrs Pinky Reddy are a few amongst others, who have extended their support to Teach for Change.
