 Superior Grocers proudly announces the appointment of Mary Kasper as the company’s Chief Legal and Human Resources Officer. With an illustrious background in law and extensive experience in the retail sector, Kasper brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role.

Kasper joins Superior Grocers from 99 Cents Only Stores, where she served as Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel and Secretary. Her previous executive positions at Unified Grocers and Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets further solidified her reputation as a trusted advisor and thought leader in the retail industry. Kasper also held leadership positions in the legal departments of Ralphs/Food 4 Less and Vons, where she provided strategic legal counsel to support business objectives.

Throughout her career, Kasper has been recognized for her outstanding contributions, including being named a finalist for the Los Angeles Business Journal Outstanding Corporate Counsel Award. She is an active member of prominent industry associations, including the California State Bar Association, Food Marketing Institute, and the California Grocers Association (CGA). Kasper previously served as the Chair of the CGA and CGA’s Government Relations Committee.

 Superior Grocers promotes Miguel Alarcon to Senior Vice President of Operations. Alarcon will continue to oversee the efficient operations of Superior Grocers and The Market by Superior’s 49 locations, which together employ over 5,000 associates.

With over 40 years of experience in the retail industry, Miguel has worked his way up from a courtesy clerk to a store director before joining Superior Grocers in 2016. He previously served as the Regional Director of Operations at El Super and the Vice President of Operations at KV Mart.

Superior Grocers Announces Richard Wardwell as President & CEO

 Superior Grocers, one of Southern California’s largest independent supermarket chains currently operating 70 locations, is pleased to announce Richard Wardwell as President & CEO effective January 30, 2023.

Wardwell brings more than 40 years of grocery retail experience. He began his career as a courtesy clerk and continued to advance in his profession, experiencing the many ranks of the grocery industry. He was director of operations for SaveMart, VP of operations for Raley’s Food Source Division, and in 2014, became VP of operations for Superior Grocers. Wardwell held the roles of SVP of operations, COO, and his current role as President. In his new role as President & CEO, he will continue to oversee all aspects of the company.

Mimi Song will be stepping down from the CEO position and will remain Chairman of Superior Grocers.

Superior Grocers Acquires Numero Uno

 Superior Grocers, a Southern California grocery retailer, announced today that it has acquired Numero Uno, an independent chain of 22 Hispanic retail grocery stores in Southern California. Superior Grocers will now operate 69 grocery stores in Southern California.

Superior Grocers Gives Back to Our Future Generation

 It was the first time that students were welcomed back to in-person teaching since the start of pandemic. Students arrived with bright smiles excited to return to campus along with a special surprise.

Superior Grocers partnered with the Rialto Unified School District and provided Backpacks filled with school supplies to the students of Boyd and Preston Elementary School. With over 1,200 Backpacks donated to RUSD, students were thrilled to select from the many different colors of backpacks provided.

“As many of the student’s head back to school this year it is important that they are provided with all the necessary tools to succeed,” said Miguel Alarcon, Regional VP of Superior Grocers. “Seeing how happy they are being back at school and their faces when they see that they’re getting a new backpack brings a big smile to our faces.”
