Gradiant, a leading global water solutions provider, announced new milestones in Australia to execute its strategy to deploy its award-winning sustainable solutions in advanced water and wastewater into the Australia and New Zealand region. Two new offices have been established in Adelaide and Perth to complement Gradiant’s regional headquarters in Sydney. Gradiant’s Adelaide, South Australia office is focused on delivery of the SmartOpsTM digital platform of asset performance optimization solutions for industrial end-users. The Perth, Western Australia office serves the mining sector and Water Corporation, the principal supplier of water and wastewater throughout the state.

“Our expanding presence in Australia will help accelerate the adoption of Gradiant’s solutions to lower the total water cost of our industrial and municipal clients and bring sustainability into their operations and supply chains,” said Govind Alagappan, President of Global Operations for Gradiant. “Australia is a highly developed economy with critical need for our solutions in mining and advanced manufacturing. The country is vast in size, where the opening of our new offices in South Australia and Western Australia will best serve our local customers.”

ISO certifications were achieved for all Australia office locations. The certifications demonstrate Gradiant’s commitment to quality, environment, and health & safety, and allow Gradiant to participate in large projects for its industrial and municipal client base. The certifications include:

These certifications allow us to bring the best outcomes to our projects by ensuring quality, environmental, and health & safety standards are met for our customers and stakeholders.”

Gradiant entered the Australia market in 2020 with the acquisition of CRS Water, an Australian business with 25 years of experience in the design, construction, and operations & maintenance of facilities in the local market. Since then, Gradiant has grown the team by 200%, where today, 45 expert engineers and staff are in-country to serve our local clients. Revenue has increased by three times during this same period. Gradiant Secures Five New DBOOM Projects in Indonesia and Vietnam, Appoints Managing Directors to Fuel Growth

Gradiant, a leading global cleantech water treatment solutions provider and projects developer, has announced the award of five design-build-own-operate-maintain (DBOOM) water treatment projects in Indonesia and Vietnam. Gradiant will provide end-to-end water treatment solutions through a customized approach using its proprietary suite of technologies to treat water and wastewater for industrial and municipal clients. These projects have a production capacity of 40,000 cubic meters per day. Gradiant has further announced the hiring of Managing Directors Thai Nam Nguyen for Vietnam, and K Sadanand for Indonesia. The new leadership appointments affirm Gradiant’s growth and investment priorities in the rapidly industrializing Asia Pacific region.

Sadanand brings over 35 years’ experience in the water industry, of which 10 years has been in the Indonesia market, working for leading companies of Solenis, Nalco Water, GE Water, Fichtner, and Ion Exchange. Nam has over 25 years’ experience in the water and wastewater treatment industry in various roles as country representative, and projects and business development director for leading multinationals such as Veolia Water Solutions.

“Customers are adopting our customized and complete solutions which they acknowledge will significantly reduce cost and simplify management of their water and wastewater treatment operations,” said Gradiant Indonesia MD K Sadanand. “Customers are delivered treated water, consistently and reliably, to their water quality and quantity requirements. With rapid industrialization pressures and increasingly strict environmental regulations, our clients will need to solve their water challenges in performance- and cost-optimized approaches. We are excited to help solve water and wastewater problems in Indonesia by providing sustainable end-to-end solutions.”

Since its inception in early 2020, the Gradiant Vietnam team has achieved substantial headway in the region with a growing pipeline of projects that are contracted, or in late-stage negotiations. “Our technologies are an apt fit for the value-driven Vietnamese market. This coupled with our team’s ability to develop, deliver, own, and operate as end-to-end solutions will enable our clients to fully address their water and wastewater challenges,” said Gradiant Vietnam MD Thai Nam Nguyen.

“Thai Nam Nguyen and K Sadanand will be incredible assets for our customers as they look to transform their businesses and infrastructure in these regions. Their local expertise will leverage Gradiant’s global resources and know-how, to ensure we are meeting the full needs of the regions’ customers,” said Sankar Natarajan, who heads the company’s project acquisition efforts for Southeast Asia. “Asia Pacific serves a critical role in the global supply chain with over 40% of the world’s manufacturing. Vietnam and Indonesia require effective and optimized water solutions to balance rapid industrialization with sustainable growth.”

The recent success in Indonesia and Vietnam further cements the company’s continuing rise in the Asia-Pacific region as a market leader. Gradiant has recently announced a major funding round to accelerate growth, and a series of new contract wins that demonstrate the market’s sustained demand for cleantech water solutions and DBOOM concession models.

Gradiant Achieves Strong Growth Across Asia in Cleantech Water Treatment during the Pandemic

Gradiant, an end-to-end cleantech water treatment solutions provider, announced that it has secured 26 new projects in 2021 year-to-date (YTD) across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Four of the projects will be delivered as design-build-own-operate-manage (DBOOM) contracts for long-term concession periods of up to 20 years. The business growth demonstrates increased demand for advanced water & wastewater treatment during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

The new contracts in 2021 YTD are a mix of high-profile clients in the industrial, municipal, and government sectors, including multinational brand owners. Eighteen of the 26 new projects in 2021 YTD are with new clients that have selected Gradiant for the first time to solve their complex water challenges. New applications for Gradiant’s technologies this year have been in lithium mining, semiconductor fabrication, and high complexity industrial wastewater reuse.

“Our business has thrived this year at Gradiant, despite the challenging market dynamics brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Prakash Govindan, Co-Founder and COO of Gradiant. “We have adapted to the evolving needs of the market by taking on new clients to penetrate new strategic COVID-resistant market segments in semiconductors, mining, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Facilities equipped with Gradiant’s SmartOps(TM) asset management and remote monitoring & control systems continue to produce mission-critical water during the COVID-related travel and access restrictions. Since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020 until today, Gradiant has been awarded 56 new projects, delivering a total contract value of over US$514 million. We are proud of these accomplishments while managing through the pandemic – these results are only possible because of the commitment and passion of our team and our customers.”

Gradiant is committed to the Asia Pacific region. Almost all Gradiant’s growth in 2021 YTD has been in Asia Pacific, where the region’s rapid urbanisation and population growth have been driving the demand of clean and sustainable technologies. Gradiant won new contracts to build facilities for the first time in Indonesia, Vietnam, and even Antarctica. Gradiant’s team has grown from 250 people at the end of 2020, to about 350 people in 2021 YTD – almost all headcount growth has been in the Asia Pacific region, mainly in their Singapore Regional HQ and R&D Center.

Research from MSCI(*) has indicated growing attention to sustainability among investors, who have recognised that companies with strong environmental, social and governance practices in Asia are outperforming their counterparts. These regional trends suggest growing need for brand owners to adopt sustainable business practices, placing greater importance for cleantech solutions providers such as Gradiant to support their operations.

“We are experiencing another year of robust growth at Gradiant,” said Luke Johnson, CFO of Gradiant. “Growth remains consistently strong across our strategic market segments in semiconductors, mining, and pharmaceuticals, and our new contract wins support the market’s sustained demand for cleantech solutions and DBOOM concession agreements. We have proven this year that our acquisitions of Sigma Water (Malaysia) and CRS Water (Australia) in 2020 created synergies to access new customers, applications, and geographies, when married to Gradiant’s clean water technologies and project development and financing capabilities.”
