Fudan and Gotion established the Joint Research Centre for Advanced Battery Technology

On August 9, the Joint Research Centre for Advanced Battery Technology, Fudan University (Academic) and Gotion High-Tech (Enterprise) was officially established and licensed at Jiangwan Campus of Fudan University. According to the agreement, the parties will carry out joint R&D and exchange on the projects of advanced materials and battery technologies such as sodium-ion batteries, thermal insulation materials and LMFP materials.

Ma Yugang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an assistant to the president of Fudan University and the dean of the Institute of Science and Technology, and Cheng Qian, the executive president of international business of Gotion High-Tech, unveiled the Joint Research Centre on behalf of both parties. Chu Junhao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the dean of the Institute of Optoelectronic, Fudan University, said that this was a meaningful and powerful cooperation and it was expected that the Joint Research Centre could become a source of original innovation in advanced battery technology and an “incubator” for high-level application-oriented talents in China.

The cooperation between Gotion High-tech and Fudan University started in August 2022., Dr. Zhang Ya, the president of the Tsukuba Research Institute of Gotion High-tech, making a report on the construction of the Centre on site. Over the past year of cooperation, the project teams of the Joint Research Centre have regularly carried out in-depth exchange and cooperation on topics such as anode and cathode materials of sodium-ion batteries, research and development of pre-lithiation technology, development of thermal insulation materials, research and development of LMFP materials, and development of high-security and high-performance composite cathode materials. “At present, our multiple R&D projects are progressing smoothly, and some have even achieved breakthroughs.”

Professor Li Wenwu of the Institute of Optoelectronics, Fudan University is one of the responsible persons of the Joint Research Centre. Li Wenwu introduced that both parties will give full play to their respective advantages in scientific research and market application, and share resources such as R&D platforms and personnel. Fudan will assist Gotion in solving vital technical problems in development, support Gotion in carrying out exploratory and practical research combining cutting-edge scientific and actual market demands, and jointly promote related technological innovation and industrialization such as energy storage conversion, advanced battery technology, digital energy and new material development.

Gotion High-tech and VinES Vietnam base break ground at a joint venture battery factory

November 18, the joint venture battery factory by Gotion High-Tech and Vietnam VinGroup was officially opened in Vietnam Ha Tinh Economic Development Zone. The project is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 5GWh, scheduled to be in operation by the end of 2023, which is the first LFP battery factory in Vietnam.

The factory was jointly invested by Gotion High-tech, and VinES (a member of VinGroup). Gotion High-tech holds 51% of the shares and VinES holds 49%. According to the plan, The project has a scale of 14 hectares with a design capacity of 5GWh/year and is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2023. To meet the demand for LFP batteries for VinFast new energy vehicle batteries.

Gotion High-Tech intends to invest in a production base in Europe with an annual production capacity of 18GWh

On 27 June, Gotion High-Tech held the 5th New Energy Economic Forum and the Opening Ceremony of Gotion Germany at its Gottingen base. It is noted that the Gottingen base, as the first battery production and business operation base of Gotion in Europe, is expected to start the transformation by the end of this year. Chairman Li Zhen said that Gotion perfectly combined China’s advanced battery technology with Germany’s advanced process engineering, thereby enabling the production of Gotion’s battery in Europe. At the ceremony, Gotion High-Tech also released GenDome, its first portable energy storage product for overseas markets and Gendock 3000, its first portable mobile energy storage product at the same time.

It is noted that the Gottingen base covers a site area of approximately 174,000 sq.m., and has an existing gross floor area of approximately 40,000 sq.m.. According to the plan, the project will be constructed in two phases, namely the brownfield plant and the greenfield plant, with an annual production target of 6GWh and 12GWh, respectively. The first phase of the brownfield plant transformation is expected to be officially launched by the end of 2022, and the first production line with an annual capacity of 3.5GWh will be officially put into operation in September 2023. It is expected that the annual production capacity target of 18GWh will be achieved after the brownfield and greenfield plants of the base are fully put into operation.

Combined with the development and technology orientation of the new energy market in Europe, the base will research and develop new energy battery products that cater to the local European market, and carry out the production of bus batteries, automotive batteries, energy storage batteries, mobile charging and other series of products. At the opening ceremony, the Gottingen base released GenDome, the first portable energy storage product for overseas markets, and Gendock 3000, the first large-capacity portable mobile energy storage product, which can convert solar energy and wind energy into electricity; it not only helps customers manage the use of household energy and meet the daily needs of the household and outdoor users, but also meets 99% of customers’ power needs, and effectively reduces energy bills.
