The Day On The Streets Of Kolkata; An extraordinary documentation of an extraordinary city

Kolkata witnesses “never-before” street photography extraordinaire across a 24-hour calendar day on 15th March 2023

KOLKATA, IndiaApril 5, 2023PRLog — 40 street photographers from 7 different nations converged at Kolkata, and within a single 24-hour calendar day, from midnight to midnight, they roamed around the streets capturing moments of the Kolkata life as it unfolded, as it happened, as it really is. The contingent of street photographers was divided into sub-groups and was sent to different regions of the city allocated for each group across different time slots. Several photographers stretched as long as 18 hrs beyond their stipulated slots. They braved the scorching March sun, the rising humidity, the pollution, and the traffic congestion all for the love of street photography, people, and the City of Joy – Kolkata.

Kevin Unger, DOTSO Founder,  stated: “Street photography has become the most popular genre of photography, and it’s no wonder that it would multiply due to the invention of the smartphone. It’s easy enough to go into a city center for a few hours and take some real breathtaking photos. But I always felt, that to get a good sense and cross-section of a city, to really bring it to life it would take much more than one photographer can do. DOTSO is about bringing street photographers together, to share their perspectives and through photos show the heart and soul of a city captured within a twenty four hour period – one full calendar day!”

DOTSO Kolkata has been different in a way that was never attempted in the previous editions. Street photographers as far as from Israel, Belgium, USA, Britain, Sweden, France, and India decided and volunteered to participate in this unique project along with a dozen selected students from the Photography Club of the Heritage School, to capture the very soul and essence of Kolkata – The City of Joy!

ABOUT DOTSO
Kevin Unger felt exhausted from more than 15 years of his photojournalism career. He decided to put his cameras away for years, as he felt it tiring being caught in the crossfire of war reporting and a never changing narrative. One of his photojournalist friends pushed him towards picking up the camera again to shoot street shots. He eventually found his passion back for photography while doing street photography and he realised the therapeutic value it brought to his life. As a kid, he was vulnerable to substance abuse and he strongly believes that street photography as an art, discipline, and genre can help socially challenged kids to use this as a tool to get back to a normal life. DOTSO comes with a purpose to spread the art of street photography to everyone not only as an expression but also as a way to revival & rejuvenation.

DOTSO focuses on taking this awareness to every corner of the planet, one city at a time.

GEN. Rawat was an extraordinary military leader, and his death creates a void that cannot be filled: President Kovind

Gen. Bipin Rawat was an extraordinary military leader, and his death creates a void that cannot be filled, said the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. He was speaking on the occasion of review of the Passing Out Parade of the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun today (December 11, 2021).

The President said that we gathered here today when the nation is yet to come out of the shock of the untimely demise of Gen. Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Defence Staff. Uttarakhand was his home and he was trained at the Indian Military Academy. At the IMA, he was awarded the Sword of Honour for his exceptional skills. But for the tragedy, he would have been among us here today, looking at the passing-out parade with delight and pride for the cadets.

The President said that Gen. Rawat added to the glory of the IMA, which is an institution with an inspiring tradition. Before him, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and many other extraordinary warriors and strategists began their journey here as young cadets and potential leaders. Some of them laid down their lives for the safety and honour of our nation. He expressed confidence that the gentlemen cadets, who would shortly embark on their journey of a life characterised by valour and wisdom, would carry forward the rich legacy of this academy.

Congratulating the cadets on the successful completion of their training at the IMA, the President said that their service and dedication as soldiers and leaders of men shall add to the strength of a peaceful, independent and democratic India. He urged that, on this occasion, we should recall the iconic status acquired by one of the many illustrious alumni of the academy, General Bipin Rawat, who by dint of his hard work emerged as the role model of soldierly conduct for the future generation. The President expressed confidence that our flag shall always fly high because brave men like gentlemen cadets present here would preserve and protect its honour.

The President said that the challenges that our great nation faces today are defined by a complex security environment, at the regional and global level. The cadets must, therefore, keep in mind that physical and mental toughness alone would not equip them to tackle modern-day threats to the country. As military leaders, they would have to develop a strategic mindset, cultivate an adaptive temperament and acquire the mental resilience essential to hone the skills required for military leadership. They must be prepared to deal with the unexpected challenges that the profession of arms shall present before them at various junctures of their service.

The President was happy to see the gentlemen cadets from friendly foreign countries of Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Turkmenistan and Vietnam at the parade. He said that we cherish the special bond between our nations, and it is a matter of great pride for India to have such fine officers and gentlemen from friendly foreign countries graduating today. He expressed confidence that they would preserve the unique bond of friendship forged with their colleagues and instructors during their training at the IMA.

PM Participates in G20 Extraordinary Summit on Afghanistan

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated virtually in the G20 Extraordinary Summit on Afghanistan earlier today. The Meeting was convened by Italy, which currently holds the G20 Presidency, and chaired by Italian Prime Minister Mr. Mario Draghi. UREEQA’s Extraordinary Partnership with the Ministry of Education in Cyprus

UREEQA is thrilled to announce a brand-new partnership with the Republic of Cyprus’ Ministry of Education, Department of Secondary General Education’s music program. This pilot affiliation will grant students from the blockchain-oriented EU nation the opportunity to have their original musical creations protected, managed and monetized on UREEQA’s innovative new platform.

The exciting new relationship with the Ministry’s Department of Music will enable Cypriot Creators aged 12 to 18 to submit their work for a chance to gain entry into UREEQA’s Closed Beta — where artwork of all kinds is verified to be original, minted as a non-fungible token (NFT) with a digital seal of authenticity on the blockchain.

“Our love of creative work binds us together as global citizens like nothing else,” UREEQA CEO Harsch Khandelwal said, “and we’re incredibly excited to unite with budding artists in Cyprus. We can’t wait to see what these young creative minds will bring to our platform, and we’re certain that the benefits associated with our system and our Responsible Minting technology will further stimulate an already robust NFT culture in Cyprus. This will truly be a win-win for Cyprus and UREEQA.”

Dr. Georgia Neophytou, who oversees the nation’s music program(s) as the Inspector of Music Education, echoed Khandelwal’s excitement, stating that “The better I understand the principles of it, the more I appreciate the relevance and value this technology could bring to the artists and Creators of Cyprus; even more so, since Cyprus will be the first country in the EU to pilot this. We are a small country, and these kinds of wins are always sought after and critical to us.”

The pilot alliance represents a significant step into a new, previously untapped realm for UREEQA’s increasingly diverse and extensive portfolio of pledged artists and partners, but there’s nothing random about the connection between the two parties.

Through this novel approach, UREEQA is offering access to a new service to Creators from all walks of life, while Cyprus has the opportunity to break new ground in embracing the blockchain and related digital assets — particularly at the grassroots. The University of Nicosia in the nation’s capital was the first post-secondary institution in the world to offer a course in blockchain, the first to offer a degree in the same discipline, and the first to write academic certificates to the blockchain.

There’s no telling what this arrangement could do for music produced by Cypriot youth whose work may have otherwise been lost in the creative world’s enormous abyss, or how many new musicians or musical producers might emerge upon being motivated by a chance to introduce their creations to a dynamic and influential community like UREEQA’s.

In the early stages of the Closed Beta, the UREEQA platform has most notably secured pledged assets from Lifehouse bassist and vocalist Bryce Soderberg, drumming legend Kenny Aronoff, as well as welcoming various music industry leaders to our Board of Advisors, including Kevin Leflar of officialCommunity and Janice Scott, a former VP at the music copyright organization SOCAN.

Now, several talented students in Cyprus will be among the ranks at our Closed Beta, and that prospect could inspire hundreds if not thousands of them to further build their musical skills and bolster their portfolios.

“The Republic of Cyprus has a history rich in the arts and culture,” Khandelwal added, “and we look forward to helping shine a light on that.”

About the Department of Secondary General Education in Cyprus

The Department of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth in Cyprus is responsible for both Public and Private Secondary Schools in the country. It currently serves more than 60,000 students aged 12 – 18 at more than 150 schools, 10 of which are specialized music schools.

About UREEQA

The UREEQA platform strives to protect Creator’s work, their rights and their revenue by harnessing the power of blockchain technology.

Established in Canada in 2020, UREEQA will modernize the inefficient and bureaucratic systems currently in place for copyright, patent, industrial design and trademark protection. By building a robust and compelling Package of Proof for source creative work, UREEQA only mints Validated NFTs to represent creative rights. This helps keep buyers safe by giving them confidence that the work they are purchasing was minted by the smart contract approved by the Creator of the work and is therefore authentic.

UREEQA provides value and opportunities for its Creators, Validators and Tokenholders via URQA, the token at the heart of the UREEQA ecosystem.
