Back in August, Samsung revealed that pre-orders in Europe for the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 were 20% higher than the pre-orders for the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 last year. The new foldables have continued to gain momentum since then.

Now, Samsung says that the combined Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra sales are 50% higher than the Z Fold7 last year (note that this stat doesn’t include Z Flip sales, unlike the pre-order number). Okay, it’s two phones against one, but this shows that there was a wide foldable-shaped hole in Samsung’s Galaxy Z line-up.

This conclusion is also backed by another stat – the number of former Z Flip owners who upgraded to the Galaxy Z Fold8 is three times higher than the number of Z Flip users that bought a Galaxy Z Fold7 last year.

Similar numbers are coming out of the US too – the combined sales of the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra are 30% higher than Z Fold7 sales last year. In fact, these two accounted for 80% of current Galaxy Z series purchases in the US. This leaves only 20% for the Z Flip8.

The Z Flip models are a sort of gateway into the world of Galaxy Z foldables – 20% of European Z Flip8 buyers came from competing brands. In the US, that number is 30%. For many of them, the Z Flip8 is their first foldable.

The 2026 lineup has proven to be more successful at luring iPhone users away from Apple – there was a 60% increase in iPhone users buying a Galaxy Z8 phone compared to the Z7 series last year.
