More than eight years after Indian Air Force (IAF) Group Captain was arrested after being honey trapped, the Delhi police has also rounded up a Wing Commander on similar charges, with both falling prey to traps laid by Pakistan ISI to extract confidential and strategic information about India.
A Group Captain was picked up by Delhi Police in February 2018 after getting honey trapped on Facebook that hosted a fake model profile peddled by the ISI. He was accused of passing classified documents regarding the Defence Space and Cyber agencies.
This time, IAF officials said that the Group Captain was under active surveillance of the IAF’s intelligence wing and subsequently handed over to the Delhi Police more than a month ago for further action. Officials stated that the decision reaffirmed the IAF’s zero tolerance for such offences under the Official Secrets Act.

As in the past cases, he fell victim to a honey trap orchestrated by Pakistani intelligence operatives. After getting compromised, he at the behest of the ‘female friend’ installed data-stealing software on a colleague’s mobile phone in an attempt to gain control over the information stored in the device, police sources alleged.
Pakistan’s ISI has using similar modus operandi to get access to confidential information about India. Leading Aircraftman Ranjith KK was arrested in Bathinda by the Delhi Police Crime Branch in 2015 after being lured by an ISI-run fake profile (”Damini McNaught”) posing as a UK-based media executive.
Last year, Mangat Singh, a resident of Alwar, was arrested for allegedly spying for the ISI, as per the state police.
Rajasthan Police mounted a surveillance operation post Operation Sindoor in the State. On a specific input, the police zeroed in on Singh whose activities were allegedly found to be suspicious in the cantonment area of Alwar.
The police realised that the accused was allegedly honey-trapped by a female Pakistani handler posing under the pseudonym Isha Sharma, who offered her money in exchange for cooperation. He was arrested as the police alleged that he was in touch with Pakistani handlers for the past two years through social media platforms.
