Samrat Choudhary, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took the oath of office as Chief Minister on April 15. This Friday (May 15, 2026) marked one month since that date.

During this period, Mr. Choudhary has taken several important steps in line with former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s policies, focusing on development and zero tolerance toward corruption and crime.

A blueprint has been prepared for 11 satellite townships across 10 districts of Bihar. These townships will feature planned residential colonies, designated commercial areas, wide roads, and green spaces with plantations along roadsides and in parks. This is considered one of the dream projects of Mr. Choudhary.

A proposal to include Sasaram has also been put forward. The initiative aims to reduce urban pressure, provide citizens with better living facilities, and promote planned development.

The “Police Didi Scheme” is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the safety of women and girl students while strengthening trust between the police and society. The Government has decided to procure 1,500 scooters for women police personnel. “Police Didi” officers will be deployed near schools and colleges to curb harassment, eve-teasing, and crimes against women.

Launch of Sahyog Ki Triveni (Three-Tier Public Support System) to strengthen good governance and ensure government accountability to the public, which includes Sahyog Helpline: 1100, Sahyog Portal: sahyog.bihar.gov.in and Sahyog Camps at the panchayat level.

These camps will be organised on the first and third Tuesdays of every month to address complaints related to block offices, police stations, and revenue offices starting from May 19. A 30-day timeline has been set for resolving complaints registered on the portal. Failure to resolve complaints within this period may lead to disciplinary action, including suspension of the concerned official or employee.

In its second cabinet meeting, the government made a decision in the education sector by approving ₹800 crore to develop all district schools and one selected higher secondary school in each block into “Model Schools.” In addition, ₹104 crore (₹50 lakh per college) has been approved for establishing new degree colleges in 208 blocks that currently do not have one, resulting in the creation of 9,152 new positions.

The Government has also introduced measures to ensure transparency and accountability in private schools, like mandatory disclosure of complete fee structures; restrictions on arbitrary fee hikes and unnecessary charges; and freedom for parents to purchase books and uniforms from any vendor; students cannot be denied examinations or results due to pending fees. Mr. Choudhary has promised that strict action would be taken against institutions violating these guidelines.

Another important decision his government has taken is the Bihar Public Works Code has been amended to give priority to State-level contractors for civil projects worth up to ₹50 crore. Going forward, contracts of up to ₹50 crore will be awarded primarily to Bihar-based contractors, creating greater employment and business opportunities for local people.

Along with it, a paperless e-registration system has been introduced for land and property registration to reduce corruption, save time, and improve transparency. Additionally, citizens above 80 years of age will be provided with home registration services, eliminating the need for elderly individuals to visit government offices.

Apart from these initiatives, Mr. Choudhary has taken several other decisions and instructed the police to maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward heinous crimes. In this context, incidents of police encounters have also been reported in Bihar.
