A new border dispute emerged in Nabarangpur district following the Kotia controversy after allegations surfaced that the Chhattisgarh administration entered Odisha’s territory. The local sarpanch alleged that officials from the neighbouring state entered Majhidhanuan Panchayat under Kosagumuda block and used an excavator to cut off a key connecting road.

The road was reportedly being used by residents from both states for several years. Local residents stated that cutting the road severely affected transportation, agricultural activities, and local business.

Locals raised strong demands for a high-level investigation into the incident and immediate restoration of the road connection.

Territory Belongs To Odisha

Following reports of the excavation, the local tehsildar visited the spot to assess the situation and confirmed that the damaged section falls within Odisha’s territorial jurisdiction.

Regarding the travel disruption, Majhidhanua Panchayat Sarpanch, Dayaram Pujari said, “The road that connects Odisha and Chhattisgarh was dug up by the latter administration. This is causing us troubles as we are unable to travel to the neighbouring state.”

Local administrative officials stated that no prior information or consultation was made by the Chhattisgarh administration before undertaking the excavation work.

Confirming the territorial status, Kodinga Tehsildar, Tula Muduli said, “That area comes under Odisha which they have dug out. They had not discussed the matter with Odisha administration or had informed us before doing so. When I checked, I found that the area comes under Odisha’s territory. I visited the court regarding the issue and further action will be taken as per law.”
