It all started twenty years ago when Sky Covington put together a tribute show to Billie Holiday and it hasn’t stopped since. In 2022 the dolls include Dinah Washington, Etta James, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughn, and Bessie Smith. But it’s more than just jazz, it’s theater, it’s a history lesson, it’s a downright great time.

Each of the ladies are native Detroiters involved in the music scene in a variety of levels, none below fabulous. Kimmie Horne has toured the world with her jazz-pertice and brings a cool and confident Sarah Vaughn which is a nice balance to the gritty grooves of Tosha Owens’ Etta James. Powerhouse Faye Bradford presents Nina Simone and to shake it up Nina Simone Neal pays homage to Dinah Washington. Internationally admired, Thornetta Davis better known as Detroit’s Queen of the Blues returns with the class and sass for Bessie Smith and the house will be brought down by the beloved Billie Holiday as only Sky Covington can. Every generation will appreciate and enjoy this experience, middle school, middle age, or old enough to feel medieval, this jazz is for you!
