Virgin Australia selects Sabre’s Revenue Optimizer to modernize its retailing strategy amid dynamic market conditions

The Australian carrier will be using Sabre Revenue Optimizer to support decision-making with real-time data analytics as Australia welcomes back international travelers

SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, SINGAPORE and BRISBANE – WEBWIRE

Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR), a leading software and technology provider that powers the global travel industry, today announced that Virgin Australia is migrating to Sabre’s Revenue Optimizer solution to enable optimal pricing decisions and drive total revenue optimization to respond dynamically to today’s fluid travel environment.

While previously, airline pricing and availability planning has typically relied on historical data, the pandemic has resulted in unprecedented changes to the global travel marketplace, making past patterns much less reliable. Sabre Revenue Optimizer will enable Virgin Australia to take a 360-approach to forecasting, analyzing and optimizing revenue streams by providing real-time visibility into the total revenue of every flight, market and departure date.

Currently, the Brisbane-headquartered carrier is using a number of different systems in its revenue optimization strategy. The airline will be moving to Sabre Revenue Optimizer to drive its technological transformation and break down data silos to enable it to leverage intelligent decision support to recommend availability, customer choice-based demand forecasting and competitive intelligence.

“We’re delighted to be advancing our technology with Sabre at this key time for travel industry recovery in Australia and beyond,” said Virgin Australia Group Chief Commercial Officer, Dave Emerson. “As we continue to ramp up our operations following the easing of Australian domestic and international travel restrictions, it’s more important than ever that we can understand evolving booking behaviors across our network with customer-centric, real-time data analytics that give us the power to make sophisticated decisions, so we are able to seize recovery opportunities.”

Virgin Australia is the largest airline by fleet size to use the Virgin brand and has a strong domestic Australian network as well as its own short haul international services to Fiji, with more international services planned across the year. Virgin Australia Group has also expanded its international network through partnerships with leading global airlines, building an enviable international network in the process.

“As soon as borders opened in Australia, our Sabre booking data showed an immediate surge in bookings as people, unable to travel for the past two years, immediately started to make plans. So, we’re thrilled to announce this new agreement with Virgin Australia at this important milestone in industry recovery,” said Rakesh Narayanan, Vice President, Regional General Manager, Travel Solutions Airline Sales, Sabre. “As a scalable Cloud-native solution, our Revenue Optimizer will help to seamlessly support the future of dynamic pricing for Virgin Australia to capture opportunities as we move ahead with further industry recovery.”

Virgin Atlantic supports World Health Organisations ‘Go give one’ campaign through onboard donations

Virgin Atlantic is supporting the World Health Organisation (WHO) Foundation’s Go Give One campaign through onboard donations this December. The campaign funds Covid-19 vaccines for middle and lower-income countries to help close the global vaccine equity gap.

As the impact of Covid-19 continues globally, the campaign calls on everyone, everywhere to play their part in helping to offer much needed vaccines to the world. Created by the WHO Foundation, the money raised goes to an international financing mechanism called Gavi COVAX Advanced Market Commitment (AMC), which buys COVID-19 vaccines, prioritising those who need them the most in countries that cannot afford them. The campaign is asking individuals to donate £4, which is the cost of a single vaccine, with the aim to get 50 million people across the world to take part.

Corneel Koster, Chief Customer and Operating Officer, Virgin Atlantic, commented: “It’s evident that Covid-19 is something we must learn to live with. We know that en masse vaccine programmes work, thanks to the success we’ve seen in developed nations around the world, but unless we support lower-income countries in accessing these vaccines, we will not beat this global threat. By supporting the World Health Organisation in raising funds for the Go Give One campaign through our onboard donations this month, our teams and customers can play a part in helping to close the gap. The WHO foundation and Virgin Atlantic are grateful for every contribution.

“It costs just £4 to buy a vaccine, meaning even the smallest donations can go a long way. Successful vaccination programmes are the route out of the pandemic and we must all play our part in combatting this virus; together we can do our bit to offer vaccines to the world and beat Covid”

Anil Soni, Chief Executive Officer, WHO Foundation said: “Getting vaccines to people who need them most is vital to help end the pandemic. We are delighted to have Virgin Atlantic support vaccine equity through the Go Give One campaign with onboard donations and the additional donation through the Foundation. The travel industry has been stepping up through our coalition efforts. Only by working together can we close the gap and ensure vaccines for everyone, everywhere”.

Virgin Island Amateur Radio Group Bolsters Repeater Infrastructure in the Territory

When two Category 5 hurricanes hit the Virgin Islands in 2017, hams there knew they had to do something. The two monster storms destroyed 95% of St. Croix’s electric utility poles, and many antenna towers were down. As a result, the USVI Government’s primary land-mobile-radio (LMR) trunked radio system was essentially non-functional, and the National Guard could not be heard on any radio frequency for a week following the storms.

Territory radio clubs immediately went into action. St. Croix ham operators quickly established a daily high-frequency (HF) net for first response agencies. A single surviving ham repeater provided limited communications between islands. These links provided critical information and communications for governmental and non-governmental agencies including FEMA, Department of Defense, Transportation Security Agency, National Park Service, VI National Guard, Red Cross, and local police and fire services.

A $27,955 grant from Amateur Radio Digital Communications (ARDC) will help them bolster the amateur radio infrastructure and train new amateur radio operators, thereby improving their ability to respond to disasters in the future. The funds will allow the Virgin Islands Amateur Radio Group (VIARG) – a group formed after the 2017 hurricanes – to purchase backup repeaters, commercial-grade antennas that will improve the resiliency and coverage of the repeaters, and training materials to help new amateurs get licensed and on the air.

VIARG President Fred Kleber, K9VV (NP2X) commented, “The generous ARDC grant will allow VIARG to improve and harden the territory’s critical amateur repeater system, and adding digital communications capabilities marks a new chapter for new and future territory amateurs.”

About Virgin Island Amateur Radio Group (VIARG)

The Virgin Islands Amateur Repeater Group (VIARG) was formed in 2017 following devastating twin Category 5 hurricanes Irma and Maria in the territory of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). VIARG’s primary goal is implementing, maintaining and expanding a linked repeater system to connect USVI hams and promote amateur radio in the Territory. By doing so, VIARG supports its federal and territorial partners, as well as other non-governmental organizations (NGOs). About ARDC

Amateur Radio Digital Communications (ARDC) is a California-based foundation with roots in amateur radio and the technology of internet communication. The organization got its start by managing allocations of the AMPRNet address space, which is designated to licensed amateur radio operators worldwide. Additionally, ARDC makes grants to projects and organizations that follow amateur radio’s practice and tradition of technical experimentation in both amateur radio and digital communication science.
