Canada – Accepting applications for Rediscover Main Streets initiative as of Monday, April 4
Non-profit organizations encouraged to apply for support to reanimate main streets, downtowns and neighbourhoods
April 3, 2022 · Bedford, Nova Scotia
Atlantic Canadian main streets are dynamic spaces where people gather to enjoy all that our urban and rural communities have to offer. They drive the economy as hubs of social, economic and cultural activity. The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Rediscover Main Streets initiative, is investing up to $10 million to help non-profit organizations generate new ideas that inspire residents and tourists alike to rediscover these vibrant local spaces.
During her visit to Halifax to attend the 2022 Halifax Business Awards, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, strolled the Bedford Basin Farmer’s Market on the Bedford Highway, together with Lena Metlege Diab, Member of Parliament for Halifax West, to visit establishments along the way and discuss the renewed energy the area will see as locals and visitors return and reconnect.
Minister Petitpas Taylor and MP Diab also took the opportunity to remind people they met that ACOA will accept applications for Rediscover Main Streets starting Monday, April 4, 2022.
Non-profit organizations, including business improvement associations, tourism associations, chambers of commerce, and destination marketing organizations, are encouraged to submit projects that will reanimate Atlantic Canadian main streets, big and small.
Whether adding exciting elements to existing festivals, creating new events, animating streetscapes, or implementing marketing campaigns, Rediscover Main Streets projects will help Atlantic Canadians rediscover their favourite places and be reminded of all their communities have to offer.
By supporting locally and provincially tailored initiatives, the Government of Canada is taking real action to build a strong and resilient economy that is innovative, diverse and inclusive.
