Tensions erupts at Utkal University campus after assault on students by non-students

A violent altercation broke out at Utkal University campus on Monday night following the alleged assault of students by a group of non-students, raising concerns over campus safety and law enforcement preparedness.

According to reports, the incident occurred near New Park on the university premises, where more than eight non-students had reportedly gathered, consuming alcohol and creating a public nuisance. As some students attempted to pass through the area, they were intercepted, verbally abused, and physically threatened by the non-student group.

The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical clash between the students and the intruders, resulting in four students sustaining injuries. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes of shouting, scuffles, and disorder as tensions intensified between the two groups.

Following the escalation, police from Sahidnagar Police Station arrived at the scene to restore order, dispersing the crowd and ensuring the safety of students on campus. No information about arrests has been released yet.

University authorities have expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the need for stricter monitoring of campus entry points and better security arrangements to prevent similar incidents in the future. Students have also demanded prompt action against the intruders to ensure the safety and sanctity of the university environment.
