The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)on Wednesday(August 20, 2025 )informed the Madras High Court that Sun Television Network Limited had actually declined to make the needed cuts needed for the issuance of a U/A certificate to Rajinikanth-starrer Coolieand rather accepted an’A’ certificate, therefore making it impermissible for audiences listed below 18 years of age to see the motion picture in movie theater theatres.
Appearing before Justice T.V. Thamilselvi, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) AR.L. Sundaresan stated: “At the time of hearing, it was proposed to them that if you desire U/A certificate, some more cuts need to be made. They made a recommendation stating that we do not desire any cuts, however offer us the ‘A’ certificate. They accepted the ‘A’ certificate and can not turn a volte face now.”
The submissions were made throughout the hearing of a civil various appeal submitted by the production company to quash the CBFC’s August 4, 2005, procedures, through which an ‘A’ certificate was released to the motion picture, and provide an ensuing instructions to the board to release a U/A certificate. The ASG stated, there was definitely no seriousness in hearing the appeal given that the motion picture was launched on August 14.
