New Delhi: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) plans to invest ₹30,000 crore over the next five years as part of its capacity expansion plan, covering smelting and scaling up power generation capacity. Company chairman and managing director Brijendra Pratap Singh said the public sector undertaking (PSU) will fund this investment through a mix of loans and internal accruals.

Commenting on ongoing projects, Singh said: “NALCO plans to add 1 million tonnes (mt) of aluminium refining capacity by June next year in Angul.” This will take the PSU’s total aluminium refining capacity to 3.1 mt. Singh said about ₹18,000 crore will be invested in setting up an aluminium smelter in Odisha. The remaining ₹12,000 crore is earmarked for a coal-fired power plant, for which NALCO is in talks with Coal India and NTPC.
