Smithsonian Names Members of the American Women’s History Museum Advisory Council

The Smithsonian’s Board of Regents has announced the advisory council members of the Institution’s new museum, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum. The 25-member board is composed of 19 citizens, the Smithsonian Secretary, a member of the Board of Regents and four members appointed by congressional leadership. Smithsonian American Art Museum Announces New Equity and Diversity Initiative Through the American Art Journal

The Smithsonian American Art Museum has established a new professional development program to foster excellence and diversity in the field of American art scholarship. “Toward Equity in Publishing” is a two-year pilot program that will provide critical support to early-career art historians. Through editorial mentorship and workshops, the program will demystify scholarly publication processes and help scholars revise manuscripts for submission and publication. The initiative is supported by a $64,000 grant from the Dedalus Foundation. Smithsonian to Require All Visitors to Wear Masks Indoors

Starting Friday, July 30, the Smithsonian will require all visitors ages 2 and older to wear a mask in its museums and indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. Fully vaccinated visitors will not be required to wear a mask in outdoor areas at the National Zoo and the Smithsonian’s outdoor gardens but must wear a mask to visit indoor areas, including restrooms. This change follows the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which recommends that fully vaccinated individuals wear masks indoors in areas of substantial transmission rates of COVID-19. Smithsonian American Art Museum Reopens May 14

The Smithsonian American Art Museum and its branch museum, the Renwick Gallery, reopen to the public Friday, May 14. This is the second reopening of the museum following closures on March 14, 2020 and on Nov. 23, 2020 as a public health precaution due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
