The Knowledge Group Has Scheduled a Live Webcast on Balancing Duty and Confidentiality: Protecting Privilege and Confidentiality in Child Abuse Cases

Event Summary:
In the intricate landscape of child abuse cases, legal professionals encounter a challenging balance: ensuring the welfare of the child while preserving attorney-client privilege and confidentiality.

Join our upcoming CLE webcast, ‘Balancing Duty and Confidentiality: Protecting Privilege and Confidentiality in Child Abuse Cases,’ where our esteemed speakers will dissect this intricate subject. This session aims to unravel the legal and ethical complexities involved, furnishing participants with effective strategies to uphold confidentiality and privilege in such sensitive scenarios.

Key issues that will be covered in this course are:
1. The landscape has changed, illustrated by the SBC and Larry Nassar reports
2. Law enforcement is becoming more aggressive about
a. Broadly defining abuse, and
b. Charging mandated reporters
3. Lawyers advising their clients need to take a similarly broad view. When in doubt, report. Need to make sure that you have a consistent reporting structure and also that the structure doesnt prevent an individual within the organization from making a direct report.
4. We also need to help our clients respond after the mandated report
a. No longer enough to wait for law enforcement, and
b. We need to help clients plan ahead for crisis response
5. We no longer can concentrate on defending potential lawsuits, but we have to help our clients with their entire mission of caring for children and families.
