For retired healthcare administrator Jay Mack, that genre is crime and suspense. His new book, Seizing Jurisdiction, is another ambitious take on the underworld narcotics trade with the twisted intrigues of drug dealers, smugglers, and, of course, the equally enigmatic operations of Americas Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
Set in historic Savannah, Seizing Jurisdiction is told from multiple perspectives, with the main one belonging to narcotics detective Spencer Baldwin. For some time, Spencer has been hot on the trail of a notorious drug smuggler known only as the Snowman. Meanwhile, his restaurant-owning girlfriend grows frustrated with their relationship and finds herself eyeing wealthy seafood distributor Carl Powers.
Little does she know that Carl is the very same criminal Spencer has been tracking. Hanging over them all is the shadow of the DEA as it puts Spencer and the Savannah police department on a tight leash. They appear to have hidden motives for wanting custody of the Snowman.
Carl, in turn, knows the situation is in his favor as he unscrupulously turns Spencers girl against him in the big twisted game theyre all in. How will Spencer untangle this nasty conspiratorial web? Will the DEA seize jurisdiction and throw them all under the bus? Is Carl completely untouchable, or could someone else pose a threat to his criminal empire?
