Canada – Death of a detainee at the Immigration Holding Center in Laval

January 30, 2022                                                                    Laval, Quebec On January 28, first responders were called to the Immigration Holding Center in Laval, Quebec, after a detainee was found in medical distress. On-site personnel attended to the detainee immediately, conducting resuscitation maneuvers until paramedics arrived.  The person was transported to a hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead a few hours after arrival.  The identity of the person will not be released at this time due to privacy considerations. Canada – Competition Bureau preserves competition in sale of crop inputs in Lipton, Saskatchewan

The Competition Bureau has approved ProSoils Inc. as the buyer of Blair’s Family of Companies’ retail crop input facility in Lipton, Saskatchewan. This transaction closed on January 28, 2022. In July 2021, the Bureau, Blair’s and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) reached an agreement that required the companies to sell the Blair’s Lipton facility, as well as two nearby anhydrous ammonia facilities, to resolve competition issues related to their proposed joint venture.
