Canada – Death of an inmate from Mountain Institution

Agassiz, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada On November 25, 2021, Keith Raymond Tyler, an inmate from Mountain Institution, died while in our custody. At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence for second degree murder since January 9, 1984. The inmate’s next of kin has been notified. As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified. Canada – Seizure of unauthorized items at Springhill Institution

Springhill, Nova Scotia – Correctional Service Canada On November 15, 2021, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, a package containing unauthorized items was seized at Springhill Institution, a federal medium security institution. The unauthorized items seized included five cell phones, five charging cords and six SIM cards. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $16,000.
