Abu Dhabi Energy Efficiency goals addressed at the Retrofit Tech Abu Dhabi Summit

Abu Zabi, United Arab Emirates Sep 7, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  – The first day of the Retrofit Tech Abu Dhabi Summit took place on 7 September 2021 at the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers, UAE, and was officially supported and endorsed by Abu Dhabi Energy Services (ADES).

The summit opening was highly successful and delivered world-class presentations, case studies, exclusive panel discussions, and technology presentations on topics including Abu Dhabi’s retrofitting plans and strategies, the future of green buildings, IoT-enabled energy-efficient buildings, and Lighting and HVACR retrofits.

The Summit was opened with a keynote presentation from Ramiz Hamdan Ragheb Alaileh, Sustainability & Energy Efficiency Director at Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. He commented “We are delighted with the insightful inputs during the first day of the Retrofit Tech Abu Dhabi Summit.  As Abu Dhabi is ramping up its building retrofitting projects, investments will scale up and so will the social, environmental, and economic benefits. This is in line with our Building Retrofits program objectives under the Abu Dhabi Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalization Strategy 2030 which targets 2.7 TWh power-saving and 9 Mm3 water savings.”

“The Department of Energy implemented a pilot retrofitting project across seven government buildings using the region’s first ESPC model in 2019 and achieved 36% electricity savings in 2020. We continued to drive this vital program by developing the Super ESCO model which has resulted in launching ADES as a market maker and issued the Energy Efficiency Policy for Government Entities as well as Guidelines for Measurement and Verification for Energy and Water Efficiency projects in Abu Dhabi. Such efforts combined with strategic collaborations with key government entities and market players will encourage the growth of a local market for energy efficiency services and products and will certainly support a green transition, boost GDP, and create jobs.”

One of the highlights at the Summit was the Abu Dhabi Energy Services presentation and their announcement on their strategic partnerships with Abu Dhabi Health Services Co. (SEHA), ADNOC, Department of Culture and Tourism, and the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU).

Khalid Al Qubaisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Energy Services (ADES) said: “I am excited for ADES to endorse the first installment of Retrofit Tech Summit to take place in the capital. The event provided a platform for the ESCO community to connect and share news about energy efficiency projects and technologies, aiming to help our clients to reduce their water and electricity consumption. As a market maker, ADES is committed to the sustainable growth of our industry in alignment with local and federal strategies”.

The Summit opening also included an executive panel discussion on best-in-class retrofitting implementations with the foremost experts from the Department of Energy (DOE), Abu Dhabi Energy Services (ADES), Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, and Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

An exclusive VIP exhibition tour was held during the morning networking break headed by Khalid Al Qubaisi and Ramiz Hamdan Ragheb Alaileh, alongside Andrea Di Gregorio, Salwa Al Maflahi, and Sayeeduddin Mohammed.

Honeywell Building Technologies, the Gold Sponsor of the Summit, saw Corentin Soistier, Sustainability and Energy Director of Honeywell Building Technologies, Middle East, Turkey, and Africa, presenting on addressing digital transformation as an enabler of Abu Dhabi’s future sustainable buildings.

The second day of the summit will open with a keynote presentation from David Andrew Dunn, Projects Manager, Municipal Roads, and Infrastructure at Abu Dhabi City Municipality on Abu Dhabi’s Smart Street Lighting Project.

That will be followed by an extensive case study on Powering Desalination Plants through Solar Energy by Dr. Mohamed Dawoud, Advisor – Water Resources & Environment Quality at Environment Agency Abu Dhabi.

Day two will focus more on outdoor integrated lighting and energy-efficient design management and will have 10 sessions, including a joint case study from Shaikha Ahmad AlShaikh, Head of Technical Support Office, Dubai Municipality and Mays Kayed, Sustainability Manager, Royal Development Company on “Sustainable Architecture through a Timeline Frame”.
