Safe House of Southeast Missouri Makes Huge Difference in Survivors’ Lives

The organization that is dedicated to helping displaced and distressed victims of domestic and sexual violence in Cape Girardeau is reaching out for help in serving even more victims in dire need

Safe House of Southeast Missouri recently completed a campaign to add much-needed space to its’ existing housing capacity so that more adults and children can find a safe place to lay their heads. “Safe House of Southeast Missouri is an outreach that is truly close to my heart,” said Mark Maupin, the head of Driving Successful Lives (a supporter of the Missouri shelter). “Our organization supports them because we realize the importance of having this type of housing. Unfortunately, the number of adults & children subjected to domestic violence only seems to climb, especially during times of economic upheaval. Add a global pandemic to the mix, and things get so much more volatile.”

The Safe House of Southeast Missouri’s ‘Safe Tomorrows Capital Campaign’ provided funds to build a larger, more accessible shelter on a parcel of land donated for its new facility. The new shelter encompasses 18,000 square feet and increased the organization’s available beds from 17 to a total of 40.

With input from clients and staff, the new shelter was designed to incorporate a plethora of needed services to empower survivors in regaining their lives, while providing them with a private and secure environment. With the larger shelter and increased number of residents comes additional operational costs, and Driving Successful Lives is helping to defray these through its recent donation to the Safe House.

About Driving Successful Lives

Driving Successful Lives’ mission is to facilitate car donations so that veterans, homeless families, children, those with addictions & other non-profits can benefit from fellow citizens giving-forward.

Every time a person gives to the charity of their choice it may also create a tax benefit for them. The money, the items, and the real property that they have donated to non-profit institutions throughout the tax year may be tax deductible which means that they could end up being the difference between a good tax return and a great tax return. Depending upon the kind of donation and the type of charity or foundation that they chose to donate to, the tax deduction it creates could be very helpful for reducing the amount taxes that they owe. Many successful and wealthy people state that at least to a certain degree, a part of whom they are and what they have become comes at least in part from the practice of giving. Contributing to charities can be a very convenient way to reduce taxes.
