William Meredith Foundation Establishes the First Annual Nancy Frankel Artist Award

The William Meredith Foundation has established an annual award to honor the legacy of Nancy Frankel, beloved teacher, foundation board member and world-class painter and sculptor. Ms. Frankel died tragically at the end of summer in 2021. The sponsor for this year’s award, Charles Timberlake, has said in a recent note, “I still feel very sad about what happened to Nancy. She was such a beautiful and talented soul!” This sentiment is echoed by myriad friends and students who knew and loved her.

The 2022 award has been given to Ram Brisueño and future awardees will be selected by Margery Goldberg who directs the Zenith Gallery in Washington DC. Art@zenithallery.com. The gallery describes his work as follows:

Ram Brisueño’s two-dimensional and sculptural artwork is layered with unique iconography and meaning to heighten form and language. His mixed media works have an aesthetic that is a surreal perspective between material and myth, at points of transformation that draw inward to a narrative of social history, identity politics and combinations of material, color, and form.

The foundation will continue to seek funding to endow this award in perpetuity. It firmly believes there is no question about her place in the cannon of American art, and welcomes the opportunity to celebrate her life and art through this award.

The William Meredith Foundation is Pleased to Announce the 2022 Awards for Poetry Given to Christie Max Williams and Anne Harding Woodworth

The 2022 Meredith Award for Poetry is shared this year by two poets, Christie Max Williams for his debut collection, THE WAGES OF LOVE, to be published soon by Antrim House, and Anne Harding Woodworth’s book, TROUBLE published by Turning Point. Foundation Board Member and Maryland Poet Laureate, Grace Cavalieri writes, “Woodworth’s poetry elevates everyday life and contributes to our common understanding. It’s an added pleasure to recognize Anne’s lifelong service to poetry, as well as her illuminating poems in TROUBLE.”

Woodworth writes of the downtrodden with precision and empathy, all those who have seen trouble. William Meredith speaks in a poem of the various kinds of trouble we all sometimes face, but ultimately he describes humanity as a “good bind to be in.” And as Werner Gundersheimer, Director Emeritus, Folger Shakespeare Library has said of her poetry, “Sickness and health, life and death take on new clarity through Woodworth’s compelling voices, her reasoned and unflinching gaze.” These are gritty, accurate poems. The voice is authentic and compassionate. The personae in her poems are unforgettable.

Christie Max Williams is a well-known Connecticut actor, poet, and impresario. The exquisite poems in his first collection (published soon in 2022 by Antrim House,) recount his love of women, children, and fatherhood. A lifetime as a footsoldier in the arts has prepared him for the mastery of language and the charming appreciation of the “good bind” he finds himself in at the joyful human moment demonstrated in his poems. They fulfill the highest potential of poetry: to teach, yes, but importantly, to delight. To paraphrase Saint Paul, the wages of love is life.

About the Author
William Vitterelli is a first-generation American born of Italian immigrants. This experience gave him a total independence, a complete view of business and a high cosmopolitan view of people.

Author William Chipman Leads Readers Back to Truth in the Release of His Book, “Finding Truth”

William Chipman has written a book that shows how a single person with a real knowledge of what God is like can alter a whole church.

Christian, a child living just outside of a tiny rural town, is the protagonist of this fictional novel. He and his parents were not churchgoers. However, their town is hit by an epidemic, and both of Christian’s parents die. Rather than being sent to an institution, nine-year-old Christian seeks refuge in the woods where he learns to survive on his own.

Until he gets a strange dream one night that pushes him to seek the truth and discover God.

Will he fall to the conventions of a church steeped in tradition in his desire to learn more about God? Or will he take the initiative to guide them to become a happy, Christ-centered congregation?

The story is set in 1883 America, at the start of the modern era, but Chipman has changed key details to make it more relatable to a current audience. For example, rather than using the King James Version, Bible verses are taken from the New King James Version, and the usual workweek in the narrative is reduced from 72 hours to a more manageable 40 hours.

The narrative depicts how young Christian, by just proclaiming the reality of what God is truly like, was able to transform the course of an entire church and community.

This novel would appeal to both adults and teenagers.
