Steel Minister, Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh to chair two-day Conference of Ministers of Mines & Industries from States


Union Steel Minister, Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh will chair ‘Conference with Mines and Industry Ministers’ of mineral rich states of the country at Konark, Odisha between 25-26 February, 2022. The State Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Rajasthan have confirmed their willingness to participate in the conference. The Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste will also address the two day Conference.


Ministry of Steel, Govt of India is hosting the ‘Conference with Mines and Industry Ministers’ with the objective for better coordination between the State and Central governments and to offer an opportunity of presentation and interaction on matters related to Mining leases, Environment Clearances, Forest Clearances of ongoing and new mining projects.


Considering the complementary role of state governments in facilitating business, Government will use the opportunity to showcase the ₹6,322 crore PLI Scheme for Specialty Steel to the participating states.


Further, an interactive session to understand the concerns of Secondary Steel Sector will be held during the event. Senior Officers from Union and State ministries of Steel, Mines and Industries, State and Central Public Sector Undertakings will be present during the sessions.

Union Steel Minister Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh lays foundation stone for Coke Oven Plant of KIOCL


The Union Minister of Steel, Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh visited Blast Furnace Unit to lay Foundation stone for Coke Oven Plant Kudremukh Iron Ore Co.Ltd (KIOCL), Panambur Mangalore today.



The proposed project is for Setting up of 2.0 LTPA Ductile Iron Spun Pipe Plant under forward & 1.80 LTPA Coke Oven Plant under backward integration projects at Blast Furnace Unit at a Capex of ₹ 836.90 Crores  and would take  24 months  to complete from the date of placement of order on the Main technological package supplier.



Shri T Saminathan, CMD, KIOCL  stated that with the suitable patronage and support of Steel Ministry, this Mini Ratna CPSU is all poised to get back its erstwhile shine and glory by demonstrating its core competency in Mining and Pelletization industry in the Country.


Shri T. Srinivas, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Shri T Saminathan, CMD, Shri SK Gorai, Director (Finance), Shri KV Bhaskara Reddy, Director (Production & Projects), senior officials of KIOCL were also present.


The Minister would be visiting Kudremukh facility, Lakya Dam tomorrow for afforestation work carried out by the company.

Union Steel Minister Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh Undertakes Review of Status of Disposal of Iron Ore Fines by SAIL and NMDC; Asks them to Prepare a Roadmap with Clear Timelines

The Union Steel Minister, Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh here today chaired a review meeting on the status of the Disposal of Iron Ore fines by Steel CPSEs with the representative of Steel CPSEs viz. Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) and National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) along with officials in the Ministry of Steel.

Shri Singh stated that since Ministry of Mines has given permission to (SAIL) to sell stock of 70 MT of dump fines/tailings lying across different captive mines of SAIL, these stocks should be disposed of at the earliest and made available to the industry. A concrete plan of action needs to be prepared and acted upon.

The Minister further added that all the minerals irrespective of their grades are the wealth of a Nation and this national treasure should be utilized in a manner that it contributes towards the growth of the nation.

Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh directed the SAIL to prepare a roadmap with clear timelines for the disposal of iron ore fines either by sale it in open market or by using it for their captive use. NMDC was also advised to prepare a similar roadmap for enhancing their production and expanding their customer base. 

Earlier, Chairman, SAIL and CMD, NMDC briefed about their present and future action plan for the disposal of iron ore fines along with ramping up their production to ensure the more surplus raw material in the market.

The Union Steel Minister, Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh launched the Dashboard 2.0 of the Ministry of Steel here today developed by the NICSI. The Dashboard is an interactive and dynamic online platform that captures the performance on various parameters related to steel sector such as steel capacity utilisation, production and consumption, prices, raw material production, trade, stocks and rail production etc.  The Dashboard will help to monitor and analyse the performance of steel Companies on real time basisfor different KPIs of Steel sector.

Salient feature of the Analytical Dashboardare:-

  • Steel Production: Sector wise (Public and Private) and Route wise production of Crude steel, Finished Steel, Pig Iron and Sponge Iron
  • Capacity Utilization: Monthly Trends ofCapacity Utilization for Public and Private Sector
  • Trade: Daily and Monthly analysis of Import , Export and Trade Balance, both top 10 and bottom 10  Importing  and Exporting countries
  • Consumption : Month wise and Category wise trend of Consumption  for Finished and Value Added Steel
  • Price – Fortnightly Prices of Steel Items at four metro cities
  • Raw material – Monthly trend of Iron Ore and Manganese Ore, Daily quantity evacuated by NMDC, SAIL and MOIL.
  • Rail Production – Daily data of Rail production
  • Stock–Month wise stock of Alloy, Non-Alloy and Stainless Steel
  • Historical data : Production and Trade for last 10 years
  • Alerts – Negative Trend of Production, Utilization etc.

The Dashboard enables Ministry of Steel to get better insights to assist data driven decision making by way of extraction of Trends, Patterns and useful information. Visualisation of Trends and Patterns assist decision makers in finding anomalies and forecasting based on patterns.Monthly andYearly comparison of different KPIs is also available.

The portal has been designed by NIC Steel Informatics Division in association with NICSI-CEDA team. Hosting Infrastructure is provided by NIC on Meghraj Cloud.

The Steel Minister has given valuable suggestions for improving the Dashboard ina time bound manner. He also emphasisedon the regular updation of Dashboard so that most current information is available for the Ministry.

Union Minister for Steel, Shri RCP Singh takes meeting with BIS and Steel Ministry officials

A meeting with officials of BIS and Steel Ministry to review the Indian standards for steel and benchmarking based on which the standards are made, was held under the Chairmanship of the Union Minister of Steel, Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, here today.

The Minister emphasised on the regular and timely revision of the existing Indian Standards to meet the dynamic nature of the steel sector and also formulation of new Standards for the steel grades being imported, for which no Indian Standards presently exist. He requested BIS to formulate new standards with greater frequency to align the Indian Standards with the new developments taking place in the steel sector globally.  

The Minister also directed the officials to ensure that the balance 16 standards out of the 145 standards notified under the Quality Control Order are enforced without delay and action is taken promptly on the balance 23 Indian standards which are yet to be brought under the Quality Control Order.
