Japan – MHI Receives Order for Two Automated People Mover (APM) Systems at Orlando International Airport

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received an order for the replacement of two existing Automated People Mover (APM)* lines at Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Orlando, Florida.

Orlando International Airport APM

The contract, which also includes APM Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services, was awarded by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA), MHI’s US entity, and Crystal Mover Services, Inc. (CMSI), an MHI Group company, which is responsible for APM O&M services at U.S. airports.

MCO consists of two main terminal buildings and five airside terminals. The newly awarded contract includes the replacement of the A2 and B4 APM routes, approximately 0.6 kilometers long each, connecting Terminals A and B with Airside Terminals 2 and 4. MHI will be in charge of the system design and vehicle manufacture. Twelve new cars (as four 3-car trains) will be manufactured at MHI’s Mihara Machinery Works in Hiroshima Prefecture. After the new APM System is installed, CMSI will provide O&M services for up to 30 years (initial 10 years with two 10-year renewal options).

MHI CEO of Engineering Solutions QUOTE:

“We are proud to be continuing our nearly 10-year partnership with GOAA to provide safe and reliable transportation solutions for the travelling public. We remain committed to the local Orlando community, as we further expand our collaboration with highly qualified local firms,” said Kenji Terasawa, CEO of Engineering Solutions of MHI. “MHI is dedicated to continuing our record of success in the United States, especially here in the state of Florida where we already have six APMs in successful service operation.”

GOAA CEO QUOTE:

“Providing more than 55 million passengers with reliable access between our terminals and gates is a key operational priority,” said GOAA CEO Kevin J. Thibault. “We are looking forward to having this scope of work completed to greatly enhance the passenger experience, and we appreciate Mitsubishi’s partnership to meet this priority.”

As part of the contract previously awarded in 2014, MHI provided a new approximately 2.3 kilometers long APM System connecting MCO’s Main Terminal with the new South Terminal. That contract also included the replacement of the existing A1 and B3 lines connecting the Main Terminal with Airside Terminals 1 and 3. After completion in 2018, CMSI commenced O&M services.

Going forward, MHI Group will continue to work closely with its worldwide offices to provide services of high added value responding to customer needs, and supply new solutions such as the remote monitoring technology of “ΣSynX Supervision,” MHI’s digital innovation brand. In addition, through the provision of APM Systems – a clean transport mode that emits no CO2 -, MHI Group aims to respond to regional aspirations around the globe with solutions that will contribute to economic development and enhanced transportation convenience, while simultaneously helping to realize a low-carbon society.

*APMs are used worldwide to connect air terminals or function as transportation systems.in urban environments.

Casa is the owner of a 90% interest in the Congress Gold Mine property.

The Company’s subsidiary Casa Gold (USA) LLC received the Special Land Use Permit for Split Estate Mining Exploration from the Arizona State Land Department. The permit is valid for 5 years.

Casa Minerals Inc.’s president & CEO stated: “We are very excited to have the permit in our hand to continue exploration and drilling at the Congress Gold Mine project including the Shiraz Lode claims which opens additional opportunities for our shareholders. About the Congress Mine

The Congress mine is a shear zone hosted gold-silver deposit: low sulphide gold quartz veins occupy complex structural zones in coarse-grained gneissic granodiorite and pegmatite of Precambrian age. Gold values occur in association with fine-grained pyrite and, frequently, other sulphide minerals.

Most historic production was from the Congress and Niagara veins that are exposed on surface over more than 1060 m (3,500 ft) and 365 m (1200 ft). Both veins trend northwesterly and dip moderately to the north and were variously mined to several hundred metres from surface. Several other gold-bearing veins are referred to in archival documents but have not been investigated.

About Casa Minerals Inc.

The Company is engaged in the acquisition, exploration and development of mineral properties located in Canada and the USA. Casa owns ninety percent (90%) interest in the Congress gold mine (Arizona, USA). This historic high-grade gold producing mine has not been explored nor been in production since 1992. Additionally, the Company owns a one hundred percent (100%) interest in the polymetallic Pitman and Keaper properties (BC, Canada) and has an option to acquire a seventy-five percent (75%) interest in the Arsenault VMS Property (BC, Canada).

Japan – MHIEC Receives Order from Fukushima City to Rebuild Superannuated Waste-to-Energy Plant

MHIEC Receives Order from Fukushima City to Rebuild Superannuated Waste-to-Energy Plant

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Environmental & Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (MHIEC), a Group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has received an order from the Fukushima Municipal Government to rebuild the city’s Abukuma Clean Center Incineration Plant. The order calls for installation of two stoker-type incinerators(1) collectively capable of processing 120 tons per day (tpd), to replace the superannuated Abukuma Clean Center (240 tpd), originally designed and built by MHI and operated since 1988. Under the DBO(2) contract, MHIEC will also take charge of providing operation & maintenance services at the new plant for a period of 20 years. The contract is valued at 23.86 billion yen (tax excluded), with operation startup scheduled for April 2028.

Conceptual drawing of the new Abukuma Clean Center after completion

The new facility will employ state-of-the-art technology for municipal waste processing. Besides the two stoker-type incinerators, each having a processing capacity of 60 tpd, the plant will have a lighter environmental footprint enabled by reduced CO2 emissions, and provide highly efficient power generation. The heat energy generated during waste processing will be used to supply power to a nearby recycling plant and the health facility, Healthyland Fukushima, which will also receive high-temperature water. These features will make for an environmentally friendly facility open to residents that will advance Fukushima’s quest to be a “zero carbon city” achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Bidding for this project adopted a public proposal method, which took into consideration not only the bid price but also factors such as technological strengths and operating expertise. MHIEC’s proposal was selected as a result of the following points that impressed the client: the adoption of a new local electric power source with a 100% renewable energy ratio by a local company to reduce CO2 emissions, the use of waste-derived construction materials in the building to save resources, the use of a wooden administration building to enhance the view seen by visitors and from prefectural roads, and consideration of the landscape of the surrounding forest and parks. In constructing and operating the facility, MHIEC will work closely with a group of three local companies in Fukushima City.

MHIEC succeeded to MHI’s environmental protection business in 2008, taking over its accumulated technological development capabilities in environmental protection systems and abundant expertise in the construction and operation & maintenance of waste management facilities both in Japan and overseas. Based on this robust track record, the company is well positioned to propose comprehensive solutions encompassing all aspects from plant construction to operation & maintenance under DBO contract, and it can also respond to needs for after-sales servicing and maintenance. Going forward, MHIEC will continue to seek orders expansion worldwide through proactive offering of proposals for enhancing the efficiency of existing facilities, making incinerators more advanced through AI and IoT supported remote monitoring and automated operation, and lowering life-cycle costs (LCC).

(1) A stoker incinerator is the most widely adopted type of furnace used in waste-to-energy plants. Waste is combusted as it moves along on a fire grate made of heat-resistant castings.(2) Under a DBO (design, build, operate) contract, a local agency or other public body procures necessary funding and entrusts a facility’s design, construction and operation responsibilities to a private company while retaining its ownership.
