NCW Organizes Media Workshop on Capacity Building & Sensitization


The National Commission for Women (NCW) organized a workshop on ‘Capacity Building and Sensitization Program for Media Personnel’ to carry out a focused attention on women-related issues and the portrayal of women in the media. The Chairperson, National Commission for Women Ms. Rekha Sharma, and Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of India TV Shri Rajat Sharma graced the occasion.

In order to get diverse views, the Commission invited experts from different media fields. In the workshop. Shri Samir Kumar, Head, Prasar Bharti News Services & Digital Platform, Aditya Raj Kaul, Executive Editor, TV9 Network, Nisha Narayanan, CEO & Director Red FM & Magic FM, Kavita Devi, Founder Khabar Lahariya, and Vartika Nanda, Head, Department of Journalism, Lady Shri Ram College participated as Speakers/Resource persons. The speakers shared their vast experiences in journalism and focused on the portrayal of women in media. Media professionals from different organisations shared their experiences in the open house discussion.


Chairperson Ms Rekha Sharma reflected on the need for qualitative progression in media, a more sensitive approach towards reporting and an equal representation of men and women in the field. She reflected on the challenges women journalists face while reporting and the need for more women to take up managerial positions in media houses.







Special Guest, Mr. Rajat Sharma applauded women in media and said despite the negative mindset of the society, women of the country have reached heights, not only in journalism but across every field. He also said that there is a need to change mindset of the society and media has been playing a crucial role in this regard.





 


The workshop was divided into three technical sessions; ‘Gender-Sensitive Indicators for media in Media Operations and Content’, ‘Challenges Faced By Women Media Professionals’ and ‘Role of Media in Empowerment of Women’. The workshop aimed at encouraging media stakeholders to dedicate more platforms for addressing women issues and stories of women empowerment and leadership and to conduct programs informing the public about women’s rights and their available recourse in case such rights are violated.

C-DOT organizes webinar on “Centre of Innovation (COI) for IoT/M2M” to mark the observance of World Telecommunication & Information Society Day (WTISD) 2022


Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier Telecom R&D centre of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, organized a webinar on “Centre of Innovation (COI) for IoT/M2M” on 17 May 2022 to mark the observance of “World Telecommunication & Information Society Day (WTISD)”.


                                 


The WTISD-2022 is centered on the theme, “Digital technologies for Older Persons and Healthy Ageing”. Telecommunication and Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs) are playing a key role in supporting people to stay healthy, connected and independent – physically, emotionally and financially and ensuring the overall sustainability of economic and health systems.


Machine to Machine Communications (M2M)/Internet of Things (IoT) are exclusively targeted at making our lives easier, comfortable and secure with novel technological innovations. The WTISD-2022 webinar is focused on the role of “Centre of Innovation for IoT/M2M” in evolving an indigenous M2M/IoT ecosystem with contribution from relevant stakeholders and aims to invite industry, startups, academia and broader Telecom fraternity to come forward, collaborate and contribute towards the digital transformation with technological innovations.


The webinar further underscores the critical role of IoT/M2M in creating a digital technology landscape for smart cities, smart living and a healthy & sustainable environment for all including the older and specially-abled persons.


The webinar was graced by the esteemed presence of Shri A.K. Tiwari, Member (Technology), Digital Communications Commission, Government of India and Shri Nizamul Haq, Member (Services), Digital Communications Commission, Government of India.


Shri A.K. Tiwari in his keynote address emphasized upon the importance of synergy across relevant stakeholders including R&D, Government, academia, industry, and startups in strengthening the technology innovation and deployment ecosystem. He remarked that “Centre of innovation” will prove to be an effective platform for indigenous development of standards based IoT/M2M solutions for diverse applications.


Shri Nizamul Haq delivered the special address and highlighted the critical need of collaborative framework as envisaged under the initiative of “Centre of Innovation” to address the underlying issues and challenges in an expeditious and efficacious manner.


Eminent domain experts offered deep insights into the recent advancements and existing challenges in the emerging field of IoT/M2M during the panel discussion on the role of Centre of Innovation in accelerating the growth of indigenous IoT/M2M ecosystem. The panelists deliberated upon various contemporary themes related to IoT/M2M landscape.


The panel discussion comprised of a galaxy of field veterans including Sh. Sushil Kumar, DDG (IoT), TEC, Dr. Inder Gopal, Professor, IISc, Bangalore, Ms. Pamela Kumar, DG, TSDSI, Sh. Umakant Soni, Co-founder & CEO, ARTPARK, Sh. Prasad Parusaraman, CEO, Pyrox, iCity, Sh Bhushan Sethi, IoT products and solutions, Vodafone Idea, Dr. Manjunath Iyer, Principal Consultant, Wipro and        Dr. Subrat Kar, Professor, IIT Delhi.


Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, Executive Director, C-DOT extended his greetings to the Telecom fraternity on WTISD 2022. He reiterated that C-DOT is committed to supporting the growth of indigenous innovation ecosystem in collaboration with all stakeholders including R&D, academia, industry and startups. He accentuated the pivotal role of Centre of Innovation in enabling a synergistic framework for the indigenous development of standardized, secure and cost-effective solutions.


Ms. Shikha Srivastava, Director, C-DOT gave a detailed talk on C-DOTs lead role in M2M standards, C-DOT standard based M2M platform and introduced the upcoming Centre of Innovation (COI) for IoT/M2M to the industry . The key focus of COI is on industry engagement for standards based M2M solution deployments in the country.                


Shri Daniel Jebaraj, Director, C-DOT, gave the concluding remarks and thanked the guests and speakers for their informative talks.

NITI Aayog Organizes National Workshop on Bamboo Development Mission


NITI Aayog organized a national-level workshop on bamboo development today. Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the workshop, along with NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar, Member Dr VK Saraswat, and CEO Amitabh Kant.


Through the workshop, participants sought to holistically understand all components of the bamboo value chain—plantation, production, processing, standardization and utilization—in order to develop strategies and a roadmap for the development of a circular economy in the sector. As many as 150 participants attended the workshop, both online and offline.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted the urgent need for raising public awareness about the untapped potential of bamboo and encouraged the establishment of entrepreneurial start-ups in the sector. He characterized bamboo as ‘green gold’, recognizing its crucial role in uplifting the Indian economy in the post-Covid scenario.


He added, ‘Bamboo can be used for making bio-ethanol, which would reduce dependence on imported fossil fuel, thereby achieving the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the petroleum sector.’


NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar said, ‘Bamboo is a natural product that can benefit many industries. The need of the hour is to work on increasing the supply and meet the growing demand for bamboo and its products. There is a strong need to promote the bamboo sector across all states with the development of entrepreneurship amongst farmers and the youth.’


‘The construction sector in India presents tremendous growth opportunities for bamboo, owing to its unique features. Its  versatility as a substitute offers a chance to protect forests; it has immense economic and business potential,’ added NITI Aayog Member Dr VK Saraswat.


The workshop had four technical sessions. The first explored the production, value addition, and international experience of bamboo. The second emphasized on government policies, programmes, and opportunities in different sectors. The third deliberated upon a circular economy in the sector, focusing on the techno-commercial utilization of bamboo-based industries. The last session discussed national and international best practices.


The workshop was attended by participants from Central ministries, state governments, KVKs, industry, academic and research institutions, and NGOs.  Key players from the private sector, including bamboo enthusiasts, shared their experience and innovative ideas to enhance the development of bamboo in the country.


NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said, ‘From the point of view of job creation and ecological and economic development in India, bamboo has enormous potential for enhancing the quality of life, for both urban and rural communities.’


NITI Aayog Senior Adviser Dr Neelam Patel concluded the session by highlighting the challenges in the production, productivity and development of the overall bamboo value-chain. She mentioned the need for setting up BIS standards of bamboo and FSSAI certification of bamboo products. She requested industries to develop a framework for bamboo cultivation. She also emphasized on the need to link Kisan Rail to bamboo, GI tagging of bamboo products and the development of a nationwide knowledge information system on bamboo.

SECI Organizes Online Yoga Workshop for Employees

The benefits of yoga is known to increase immunity and improve overall well-being. Special online yoga sessions have been arranged with a view to engage the employees in a group activity while providing for their health, stress management and fitness . 

 Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) is a CPSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), set up on 20th September, 2011 to facilitate the implementation of JNNSM and achievement of targets set therein. It is the only CPSU dedicated to the solar energy sector
