Author Troy Louis Offers Solace for Weary Souls in His Book, “Sitting on Jesus’s Lap: Life on Earth”

WEBWIRE

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) affects more than 16.1 million individuals in the United States each year, or around 6.7 percent of the population aged 18 and over. MDD, often known as clinical depression, is a mental health issue with several consequences. It affects mood and behavior and bodily processes such as eating and sleeping. In the United States, MDD is one of the most common mental illnesses. Meanwhile, nearly 40 million persons in the United States (19.1%) suffer from anxiety disorders.

In America alone, the cry for help is seemingly increasing. But why does it take so much courage to ask for help? Are we afraid of prejudice? Or are we aware that some of our burdens take more than just sessions of talking about our feelings and chemical-induced normalcy that wears off after a few hours?

In “Sitting on Jesus’s Lap,” Troy Louis provides a practical narrative to help weary souls find their solace.

“What is going on in today’s society that’s causing this cry for help to be used so often? Is it just a common word that people use so freely? Or is it because we have an extremely high cry for help from all the problems we have on earth. Is anyone listening? Does anyone care? Is it doing me any justice? Or is the cry for help being taken in vain? Sometimes we cry out while hoping it is just a bad dream, only to realize that we all need help at some point in our lives. I am hoping this book blesses you and will be used as a tool to help you during your life trials.” –Troy writes.

The book offers readers holistic spiritual insights that help deal with contemporary societal issues such as pressure, anxiety, mental health instability, physical vitality, and conditions that cause us to be anxious and afraid. It provides a sense of security that only Jesus can provide. Troy allows us to become children in spirit who are honest and unapologetic in sharing their woes to Jesus.

The book is a read for the mind, soul, and spirit and an oasis for a hungry, tired, thirsty, and anxious world.

Saint Louis Closet Co. Plans Donation to Empower Cancer Patients

Through their giveback program, Closets for a Cause, Saint Louis Closet Co. has chosen the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis to receive a portion of February’s sales. This non-profit aims to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by the community.

“We are thrilled to partner with Saint Louis Closet Co. in support of our programs. This generous partnership will allow us to continue our programs for our current participants as well as expand our reach and awareness in the community,” says Amanda Corcoran, Development and Communications Manager of Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis.

The money raised by Closet for a Cause will go towards helping provide support groups, educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes, stress management classes, social opportunities, and resource materials. All the funds utilized by the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis are donated by individuals, family and private foundations, corporations, and special event fundraisers. Without these donations, this non-profit could not provide its free services to those who need them.

Since 1993, the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis has used its five pillars of support: support, education, healthy living skills, social connections, and resource and referral materials to provide essential services to cancer patients throughout the Greater St. Louis area. Each year, their support spans over 1,800 individuals with 10,000 hours of program support through about 2,800 different programs.

No one is like the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis. There are many beneficial support programs for cancer patients, but none provide no-cost, comprehensive psychosocial support. You can find more information on this non-profit at www(dot)cancersupportcommunity(dot)org(slash)(dot)

JFS St. Louis Awarded $200,000 Grant from the Tilles Foundation

Jewish Family Services (JFS) received a $200,000 grant over two years from the Tilles Foundation, which is dedicated to finding the most effective and impactful ways to help children in the Greater St. Louis Region through innovative charitable investments. The grant will support JFS’ Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) and its expansion to serve more individuals by adding a staff member and producing new educational tools.

The grant will enable the current program to reach nearly 52,000 pre-K through fifth grade students annually by 2026. For almost 30 years, CAPP and its trained specialists have worked with more than 150 schools across St. Louis to teach over 35,000 children, teachers and parents about body safety, the warning signs of child abuse, and safe internet skills. The program’s goal is to equip the region’s children and adults with the knowledge to reduce or eliminate the risk of child sexual abuse.

Through the generosity of the Tilles Foundation, JFS expanded its CAPP program into middle and high schools to reach an additional 10,000 students each year, as well as hired specialist Bria Liggins. Her work will focus on delivering presentations and programs that teach area adolescents the skills to develop healthy relationships in their teenage years and beyond.

The grant also will be used to create a library of seven proprietary training videos for preschool through eighth grade. These videos, which contain CAPP presentations and content, will assist school counselors and social workers to achieve a wider reach and greater impact throughout the community.

“We are truly grateful to the Tilles Foundation for recognizing our long-standing mission to prevent child sexual abuse,” said JFS Chief Executive Officer Miriam Seidenfeld. “This generous grant enables our organization to add a much-needed specialist like Bria to our team, as well as to produce videos that will expand our capacity to reach and teach a larger audience.”

Founded in 1871, JFS is a multiservice nonprofit that supports families and seniors, alleviates hunger, and improves mental health for all St. Louisans. The organization serves individuals and families in crisis, as well as helps seniors remain independent and connected to the community. JFS – which supports the emotional and physical well-being of more than 50,000 area children, families, and seniors annually – provides hunger relief through its Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry (HKJFP).
