OpenText Joins the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative to Enhance U.S. Government Cybersecurity

OpenTexts Innovative Approach to Threat Intelligence Empowers Cyber Defenders and Strengthens U.S. Government Cybersecurity Resilience

Waterloo, ON – WEBWIRE

OpenText (NASDAQ: OTEX), (TSX: OTEX), has been named a member of the U.S. Government public-private cybersecurity initiative, Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC). This collaborative effort, established by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), is dedicated to elevating the cybersecurity posture of the U.S. government and its strategic international partners.

OpenText is honored to join the JCDC and contribute to its mission of enhancing the cybersecurity of the U.S. government and its allies, said Mark Barrenechea, OpenText CEO and CTO. We believe that OpenText threat intelligence capabilities and insights will complement the efforts of the other JCDC members and create a more secure and resilient cyber ecosystem in support of mission.

As a member, OpenText will support JCDCs mission to shift the paradigm from reacting to threats and vulnerabilities to proactively planning and taking steps to mitigate them. These efforts will help strengthen the governments security management practices which are essential to protect sensitive data from threat actors. OpenText will empower cyber defenders with:

  • Knowledge of how threat actors behave: OpenText provides a wealth of knowledge and experience starting with its BrightCloud threat intelligence telemetry, which offers visibility into the behaviors and activities of threat actors. This insight spans SMBs, consumers, and enterprises. The consumer angle is unique to what other JCDC members offer and is a valuable addition to the mission, as targeted attacks frequently extend to family members and friends of high-value assets as a way to get to the desired target.
  • Intelligence at the beginning of an attack lifecycle: With cyDNA, OpenText introduces active risk intelligence, tracking threat actors in the early stages of their attack lifecycle. This proactive approach enables the identification of potential threats before they gain initial access, offering crucial situational awareness to halt attackers before they achieve their objectives.
  • Insight to secure and create resiliency within software supply chains: OpenText addresses the critical aspect of securing software supply chains through its Debricked solution. By providing threat intelligence on open-source code, OpenText empowers developers to make informed decisions, minimizing the introduction of risks into their development environments. This initiative aligns with JCDCs overarching goal of creating resilience within software supply chains.
  • Support for CISA analysts and global cyber defenders: OpenTexts commitment extends to supporting CISA analysts and global cyber defenders by actively sharing threat intelligence, including behaviors and indicators. This knowledge transfer enhances overall threat hunting efforts, fostering a deeper understanding of evolving threats within the threat intelligence community.

Partnering with the JCDC provides OpenText the opportunity to help anchor and elevate cyber defense for this nation, says Kevin E. Greene, Public Sector, OpenText Cybersecurity. “As a former DHS alum, it is an honor to be the partner lead for OpenText as we join forces with the JCDC to disrupt adversarial activities with relentless resilience through early warning capabilities and actionable threat intelligence.

SWD joins Tang Shiu Kin and Ho Tim Charitable Fund to host spring reception and celebrate Lunar New Year with elderly (with photos)

******************************************************************************************

The Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the Management Committee of the Tang Shiu Kin and Ho Tim Charitable Fund (the Fund) today (January 16) hosted a spring reception for the elderly and presented lai see packets to them in celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year. The Director of Social Welfare (DSW), Miss Charmaine Lee, joined the advisors of the Fund, Mr Richard Tang and Mr Hamilton Ho, together with members of the Management Committee at the event to send their warm and sincere regards to the elderly.

Speaking at the reception, Miss Lee said that the Fund, since its inception in 1977, has been committed to providing emergency financial assistance to needy families and individuals to help tide them over difficulties. The Fund granted $1.21 million for 284 approved cases in 2022-23, and approved another 175 applications totaling $0.79 million from April to November 2023. The Fund has approved and earmarked a total sum of $3 million for the SWD to disburse as social relief grants for the coming fiscal year.

She pointed out that the Fund upholds the philanthropic spirit of the two founders, providing not only emergency relief for people in need, but also promoting the venerable tradition of respecting the elderly and helping the disadvantaged. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the Fund. About 40 elderly persons attended the reception today. The Fund has prepared performances as well as a festive lunch to wish the elderly a happy and healthy year ahead.

Miss Lee added that the Government is committed to uniting people and drawing on the efforts of the Government, the business sector, and the community to work together for a better society. The Fund, with a history of 46 years and founded by the late entrepreneur Sir Tang Shiu-kin and the late banker Dr Tim Ho, with the SWD serving as the administrator and approving authority, and participated in by non-governmental organisations the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Po Leung Kuk, is indeed a pioneer in tripartite collaboration among the Government, the business sector and the community. The annual donations of the Fund have provided emergency financial assistance to individuals or families in need. It also demonstrates the devotion of the business sector to contribute to the community. She hoped that more generous individuals and organisations can join the tripartite collaboration with the Government to help the disadvantaged.

The Fund appointed the DSW Incorporated as the trustee of the Fund in accordance with Chapter 1096 of the Laws of Hong Kong. Members of the Management Committee include descendants of the founders (advisors), prominent members of the community and representatives from relevant government departments, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Po Leung Kuk. Drăgușin joins from Genoa

WEBWIRE

We are delighted to announce the signing of Radu Drăgușin from Serie A side Genoa, subject to international clearance and a work permit.

The Romania international has signed a contract with the Club which will run until 2030 and he will wear the number six shirt.

Born in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, the central defender spent his early years with local sides Sportul Studentesc and Regal Sport Bucuresti before he made the move to Italy in 2018 to join Juventus.

Arriving at the Old Lady as a 16-year-old, Radu quickly advanced through the youth teams in Turin, appearing for their Under-23 side who compete in Serie C at the age of 17 before making his professional and European debut as an 18-year-old in December, 2020, with a substitute appearance in Juves 3-0 UEFA Champions League group stage win over Dynamo Kyiv a game in which he played alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. His Serie A debut followed soon after as he made a late cameo appearance against Genoa later that month.

Making four first-team appearances that debut campaign, he joined fellow Serie A side Sampdoria on loan ahead of the 2021/22 season, where he played 15 games before he signed for US Salernitana 1919 at the start of 2022, whom he helped survive relegation from Serie A in their first season back in the Italian top flight since 1999.

He enjoyed a highly successful loan move to then Serie B side Genoa during the 2022/23 campaign as he played all bar 45 minutes of their league season, and scored his first four professional goals, as the Italian side secured an instant return to Serie A, finishing second to Frosinone to secure promotion. Midway through the season, the Griffin moved to make Radus switch permanent, and he has continued to flourish in Liguria having played every minute of the current campaign so far, scoring twice, as Genoa have enjoyed an encouraging start to life back in the top flight.

Internationally, after progressing through Romanias youth ranks, the 21-year-old received his first call-up for the senior side in March, 2022, and made his debut that same month in a friendly clash with Gus Poyets Greece, playing alongside Vlad Chiriches at the heart of defence. He has earned 13 caps to date.
